Lock Yard, the bar where Susan and I met in August of 2017 is closing today. Last night was the big farewell party (see the drinks above). Susan and I had talked about having our wedding there if we ever decided to make things official. That was now an impossibility. News of their closing only became known a couple days ago. We got there about 4:30 pm. A little after 9:30 pm, I made a toast to the bar, our friends, and talked about a health scare I had last year that reminded me of the importance of the people in your life, and followed things up with the next best thing given the circumstances:

Congratulations and all the happiness to you both!

Haven’t had the Russell’s, love Rare Breed. What are your thoughts on this Reserve?

I didn’t have a proper dock glass or Glencairn glass to nose, or taste it properly and assess like I normally would—being at a bar doing an impromptu share, we had to make do with the plastic ketchup cups provided—I don’t think I could offer a fair description based on the sampling size and lack of proper glassware.

Thank you! It was a beautiful day and a genuine treat to share it with so many friends in attendance. How have you been? Your absence has been noticed, and I was very glad to see you post.
Thanks for asking. My life of leisurely sitting on the deck and enjoying a pipe and a pour changed drastically after my father passed. I’ve become my mother‘s caretaker and she lives an hour and a half away from me. Free time is now a precious commodity. I feel bad for not staying in touch with good friends that I’ve made on this forum and still scan the thread headlines to try to keep up with the comings and goings.

Your post touched my heart and I felt the need to acknowledge such a beautiful moment. I miss the camaraderie of the forums and will make a concerted effort to post more often. Again, Congratulations! I could feel the love through the video.

Cheers!

I’m sorry to hear about your father’s passing and the responsibility of looking after your mother falling on your shoulders—I know all too well what that entails; when my Mom started suffering from hallucinations related to Parkinson’s years ago, I had to stop by her house nightly to be sure her glaucoma medicine, meals, etc. were being taken care of for a couple of years (before her needs became greater than what I could provide and a nursing home became the unwanted but only realistic option). The only way I knew what day of the week it was, was what television shows were on each night. It was a very stressful time. I don’t envy your position. Please remember to take those precious moments of free time for yourself—they’re very important for your own well-being.

Your response in light of your absence was especially meaningful. A big virtual hug to you. Thank you!

That was awesome!
All the best to both of you.

Had an ounce or two left of Magic Tree which I just guzzled straight from the bottle like a goddamn barbarian.
I'd buy it again, but so far as "clear non-grape brandies" go, I'd rank it below kirschwasser.

Mental note: Buy a bottle of kirschwasser. Haven't had that since I was home sick three or four years ago binge-watching Dark Shadows.

That says a lot about it considering I've had kirschwasser that was like drinking cherry gasoline.
