One of my wifes brothers found an old pipe of their father and recently gave it to us. Her father passed
away in 1975 when she was just a teenager. He was a gold miner here in Colombia back in the day and she said she always remembered him smoking this pipe while loading his mules. This particular pipe he
started smoking when he was in his 20s. Lord knows what this pipe has seen and where it's been. I've
cleaned it the best I can. There is just something special about being able to smoke this wonderful
pipe.

Now the kicker. In the leather bag with the pipe was another small bag of tobacco that had been there
since he passed in '75. I haven't smoked it yet, not even sure if I will. Right now it just doesn't
feel right but maybe in the future. For now, I'll enjoy his pipe and hope he's looking down with a smile on his face.

And BTW, it smokes absolutely beautiful.

It got me to thinking, all our pipes we think of as ours. But in the end, if we take are of them, there may be a good chance that someone else, a stranger, is going to be smoking it down the road. Like all things in life, we never truly own anything.
Agreed. We're just curators for a while.
I recently bought a small collection of estate pipes to restore. As I held them for the first time, I wondered about the person(s) who held them before me.
My ancestry is Cuban, so in my family it was cigars, not pipes. Your pretty lucky to have this pipe in your life now.
I hope you enjoy it, and add a few memories to it along it's journey.

Thanks. I collect old omega watches from the 30s and 40s and I always wonder where they've been, who's wrist wore them, and what they've seen. A lot of them have been through WW2 in Europe so it really makes you think about the history of what they've survived through. Like you said, we're just curators in a point in time.

There's a movie "The Red Violin" that is about the life of a violin over the years... different owners, etc...
