Anyone here use a hot towel prior to shaving? I do as an occasional luxurious treat.

First I wash my face with soap and water.

Next, I lather my face as though I am going to shave.

Taking a hand-towel that has been soaked in warm water, folded in half lengthwise, rolled, and heated in the microwave oven, I apply it over the bearded portions of my face. You'll find that you can get the towel surprisingly hot, but that the lather will insulate your face. I typically leave the towel in place for three-to-five minutes.

I wipe off the excess lather with the towel, re-lather my face, and then shave as normal.

The hot towel helps to soften the beard, and is surprisingly relaxing!

You sir are 100% correct.
Beard blanket used to make a facial wrap sleeve you just soak in warm water then you would wear it. Super easy.

What’s your favorite aftershave/cologne ?
F=Bombs, Capt’ Smythes Reserve Bay Rum, Classico Bay Rum, Portos (reminds me of my dad in the 80’s), Doppleganger Plumb, Twee,

i have a PAA Symmetry razor, Green Ray synth brush, and moonscape ( I think that’s what it’s called) scuttle. 1 Gillette Speed butterfly, speed king? But, the Razr rock Game Changer is the smoothest best shave so far. I just tried TOB Tobacco leaf for the first time, great shave soap. Bonus, got it while visiting London two weeks ago.

I started wet shaving with a DE Merkur 34c several years ago. One of the better decisions I ever made. I don't fuzz up a whole lot, but I got some skin issues that makes breakouts and the like very common. Shaving with disposable or electric razors always made those issues flare up, so I loathed shaving; I also had to do it because I can't grow facial hair very well, so I always end up looking like one of those Wooly Willy toys if I neglected to shave. Switching to a DE and having a better setup overall drastically reduced razor burn and breakouts.

It also saved me a ton of money. A tub of shaving lather lasts more than that canned bullshit they sell at department stores, and the blades or a DE are dirt cheap when compared to disposables. It's even a little bit more environmentally friendly, so that is pretty cool!
I use a Merkur 34c, Taylor of Bond Street shaving lather (usually Sandalwood, but I occasionally try different scents for funsies), and Proraso aftershave balm for sensitive skin. The balm helps a lot and isn't oily or overly scented, which I appreciate. As for cologne, I usually opt for Dunhill's Agar Wood, but I got several I enjoy.

I’d have to see better pictures. It takes any standard double edged safety blade. They are universal. Pack of 100 double edge razors is probably 8ish$ these days. So 100 blades (get 3-6 shaves out of each blade) lets you shave all year pretty much.

The king cutter is the one that has is stamped on the blade. Need to tape (electric tape works fine) the spine each time you sharpen it can become uneven and then lead to major problems honing it.

Do you quibble over the blades from a material or country of origin standpoint when it comes to selecting a blade manufacturer, or they all roughly equal?

Do you think Brasso is ok to clean my old Gillette?

thanks
the blue handle on your badger is beautiful by the way

Blades vary from brand to brand. Not really so much where they are made, just a different sharpness and finish.
Feather is one of the sharper blades. Shaper blades don’t always equate to an easier shave for you though. Get a sampler pack and see which brands you like more.

Start with warm soap and water on your razor. I’d have to really see a few good pictures of it before I would advise anything else. So hold off on the Brasso.
