Poraso green is a great after shave. Nice clean feeling/smell.
Palmolive cream is also another hard one to beat.
Phenoix artisan accoutrements is a great company. Their CK-6 soap makes a great lather. Many great scents and colognes/edp

I've had a short beard since I could grow one, but there was a time about ten years or so ago that I got into shaving my neck and cheeks above the beard with a safety razor. I enjoyed the process of lathering with a boar brush and slowly scraping with the razor. I kind of gave up on it eventually, though. Like @Sigmund, I also just use my beard trimmer without a guard on my neck. Not as close of a shave, but it gets the job done. We do keep a safety razor in the shower for other such grooming, though. Works great all over!

Back when I started shaving, cartridges were popular, they had two blades. Then when I started working, didn't feel the need to spend so much time on shaving, so used electric until about month ago. That trimmer I used died. Had Gillette 5 blade that I received for free in the drawer so, pulled that out. Checked with my older son what he was using and he told me vintage Gillette. So started looking into DE razors. Right before that de minimus or whatever ended, got a Canadian razor called Razorock GC. It was good. Then I got a Envoy for my boy. That below $800US free tariff thing went away, and had to pick American made razor for the boy. He loves the Envoy. Then thinking I need to try vintage Gillette. Got a Fatboy, then Slim.. Tech fat handle and Flare Tip regular (Colors are Red aggressive, Blue mild, Silver regular, and Black light weight). I actually like vintage adjustable a lot. Slim gave me the best shave. But found out Fatboy setting is different from Slim setting. Have to try different setting on Fatboy on the next rotation. And love TTO.

Have some to try, but Astra Green works for me. My hairs aren't too tough. Mostly just moustache, soul patch and goatee. Other areas get free clean up since I'm shaving. Been getting soaps to try, but stuck on Geo Trumper soap and haven't tried others. Can believe I missed out on Mitchell's Wool Fat, so had to get Spearhead soaps for FOMO. Just like pipe smoking!

Don’t worry about Mitchell’s wool fat. It’s one you had to bloom and was hard to use. I threw it away.
However Mitchell’s wool fat hand lotion is hands down the best hand lotion I have ever had.
When I heard rumor they were going out of business I bought a lot of their hand lotion.

I like this thread.
I've been doing this for a year or so now. I started with a Wilkinson Sword and Proraso white shave soap. I switched to an open comb Merkur and a few shave soap samples from Stirling. I am getting a much better shave than using the traditional cartridge razors. I will likely never go back.

I have also switched from body wash to bar soap within the last year. I have been using Stirling bar soaps and have really enjoyed them. My skin feels better and I feel more refreshed after a shower.

I been using Gillette’s but also have Merkur, Parker, Star, Schick and Gem.
These are my standard rotation of Super Speeds that get the most use.
I use Proraso Soaps and Elios or Dovo Blades the most.

Do you use other Proraso products? I use the Proraso shaving foam that has the eucalyptus oil and menthol. I like it a lot. I'm thinking of trying the aftershave with eucalyptus oil and menthol.

Try a double open comb razor from Phenoix artisan accoutrements. They were like 35$ or so. The original one they made is amazing.

I use the Proraso Green Cream as it’s just so convenient and doesn’t really require a routine or clean up and the bonus is if you travel it does that well too.
I don't use any aftershaves and never have as I use Parfum or Cologne and thats currently Chanel Bleu.
If I’m using a brush and soap Ive been using Ogallala Bay Rum or Col Conks Bay Rum now for about 12 years and have been happy with both.

So I just got online and ordered a couple Proraso Foams !!!!!!
Thanks for that Tip / Suggestion or push over the edge 😂🤪

Bleu de Channel makes a aftershave and aftershave lotion. Both are fantastic and I recommend them both.
The aftershave is just alcohol/water/fragrance. It’s not really got anything good in it for the face after a shave.

I recently found this old tarnished brass razor in my grandfather’s stuff. Can anyone tell me what it is and recommend blades for it. I have a heavy beard. Thanks.

Yes, wet shave. Isn't all the shaving wet shave? No. Electrical shaver that still requires cord to an outlet isn't one, unless you want to end it quick. And no, it's not what your gf does before.. Never mind.

So last month or so, I changed over to double edged safety razor. Then funny thing happened. It's like pipe smoking. I can't stop buying vintage shaver.

And it takes much longer than other shavers. What with triple milled soap and brush and what not. But definitely gives better results.

love this is one of the clearest examples of what is lost when convenience is chased. Yes it's easier to use disposable cartridge razors. But the shave is subpar with those. A safety razor or straight razor is actually a treat to use. So what that you actually have to learn a few things. Pipes compared to cigarettes is another example of this in action. Convenience turned tobacco into a toxic nasty weed, instead of the incredible gift it originally was.

I made a cigar trade with a guy on the home board my old home board and he sent me wet shaving stuff. He sent me a Viking handle some feather blades a couple different soaps, a cheap brush a few different things to try out. Within six months, I had at least 30 different soap and aftershave sets all kinds of handles dozens of brushes like everything else I do. I jumped in feet first I would get up every morning. I would put boiling water in the scuttle. I would whip up a nice scent for the day like the works. I did it every day for about a year and then I decided to grow a beard. I was like fuck this. 😝.

Even now if I use a safety razor, just a regular old razor. I’ll still use the good soap and aftershave, though I just don’t always go with the safety razors.

If you are interested to clean it up, razor emporium does restorations. Matt is a great guy.
I’m into this somewhat, though my stuff isn’t as cool or vintage as some I see upthread. View attachment 419797View attachment 419798View attachment 419799View attachment 419800
Can’t tell 100% if it’s a glare or how you maybe sharpening that King Cutter. Looks in the picture to have some wear on the edge. Are you taping it when you sharpen? Also, what you think of that tabac? I read it’s a cologne based off the tobacco flower if my memory serves me correctly.
