Winton your post was fine. The thread was derailed and it saddens me that our fellow Americans cannot care about each other.

Fear is a powerful thing... The question is, where to start? What should we all fear first?

What exactly can I do to help my fellow man feel safe in an unsafe and uncertain world?

I care about these people who are afraid.. Maybe you should contact a local religous organization, any of them will probably do.

I just don't get it. I don't get choosing not wearing the mask to be the hill one dies on (not literally of course). It also seems like one of those weird things no one really wants to explain beyond they don't want to. Honestly my best guess is it's a coping mechanism. I'd say from experience though the masks are a lot less annoying then the virus way less cramping of ones style (I don't mean fashion, I mean it's hard to do much when you feel like your breathing through a bowl of pudding). And this stuff it's basically the flus crackhead cousin. I'll put it this way half the people I worked with got sick including me about a week before it was supposed to be here all with in a day or two of each other. It felt like I would have to go to the hospital with pneumonia or bronchitis because it felt worse then either of those. Do what you do but I'd say a stupid annoying mask is way better then the two weeks of living hell. And normally I'am one of those people that barely notices a flu only calls off if the job is going to be mad at me for going in sick. I don't get it but I also hope with or without a mask you don't get the virus cause it's a little bitch that will ruin your day pretty seriously for at least a while. Oh yeah my throat hurt so bad I couldn't even puff on a pipe without feeling like I would die if I had another puff and normally with a flu a pipe helps me feel better.

Retrohaling an aromatic always soothed my sore throat.

Respectfully, I don't even comprehend what you are saying. I am religious. I am conservative. I don't even have to have a reason to wear a mask or not wear a mask. I just do, because I want to. I nor anyone in my family has never criticized people not wearing masks, nor have I insinuated that any of you are not good people. I merely stated that to accost someone who is wearing a mask, especially a woman buying groceries was wrong, and should be dealt with severely.

There's something out there making people screwy.

Some are a bit screwy all the time, no cause needed. If I want to avail myself of some service, grocery store maybe, I wear a mask as required. Many here have no regard for others, they demonstrate such consistently in their posts, make no effort to hide. Also, they usually disappear over time. Sometimes the decision to leave is even their choice.

What I'm saying is.. There are plently of things that might get us. Some degree of faith is what helps us navigate an uncertain and unsafe world.. I'm not very religous, I don't go to church often.. but I do believe God makes my way. IMO, it might be a lack of religion making people get so wacky. The news is driving people crazy, and they have nothing else to lean on.

As far as the thing with your wife.. she was harrassed and that is very wrong. We can find that guy, I'll ride over there with you.. He deserves no sympathy.

Telling people they shouldnt wear mask is out of line, for sure. It's nobody's business what fashion choices the next person makes.

I'm a father, husband, son, and a piller of my small community.. lol I wouldn't give the impression to those who count on me, that I'm afraid. Especially when I'm not.. But hey, people got a right to do what they see fit. I just hope it stays that way.

I don't fully understand the rebellion against masks, nor those who might be shaming those who rebel. But, I do know that they 40somethiung lunatic that tried to pull my wife's mask off while she was just quickly running in to pick up some staples at the grocers, nearly got a face full of my lead. If my wife hadn't of restrained me at my truck, I would be writing from jail right now.
Do what you want, and stop the criticism. And, don't just jump to conclusions that everyone wearing a mask is of a particular party or political disposition. I'm sure there are some hippy dippys out there without masks, and some very conservative folks may be wearing them also.
And, some wearing masks, might just be carrying. puffy
Hear hear. This right here. I have a feeling that cosmic and I might not agree on a lot of hot button issues, but I am 100 percent in agreement here. How mask wearing became a hot button issue is beyond me. Yes, I know what happened to make it that way, but the virtue AND vice signaling that masks now symbolize are a loss for our country, and a win for this virus.

Also, in before the lock! No way this thread lasts the day.

I hope most understand that I don't have opinions on most hot button issues. So, maybe this is why I am posting, mostly to learn, to understand. Looks like we are sort of coming to a middle ground.
Why, there are probably a million things I don't have opinions on. But, the new Escudo is NOT one of them. Fuck the new Escudo!

Unfortunately, masks are now a politicizing subject. So, according to some, a person wearing or, not wearing a mask is demonstrating their politics. In the vast majority of cases, nothing could be further from the truth.

In before the lock!

I'm also going to forbid my newly licensed 16 year old daughter to get behind the wheel

Pedestrians and other drivers thank you profusely!

Have you ever seen those signs on the door of a business 'No Shoes, No shirt, No Service'? Soon they'll read 'No Shoes, No Shirt, No Mask, No Service'. I have no problem wearing shoes, a shirt and a mask...it's not a big deal.

This shows a maturity rarely seen on the inter webs these days. FWIW, my comment was in response to you self-identifying in another post as conservative and religious, so I might have made some quick (and erroneous) assumptions about other opinions you might have. I am more of a progressive libertarian, and a certified agnostic (I work for religious institutions, and I know enough about faith to make it hard to be an atheist, and enough about science and fact to make it hard to be a die-hard believer.) Either way, you have been a voice for reason on this otherwise kind of a mess of a thread, and I thank you for it.

How long are you willing to wear a mask? I'm not trying to be rude at all, I wonder this.

They won't let you in the store without a shirt... but the mask thing only lasted 6 hours where I live, there are people with mask.. but there is certainly a large population of people without.
