If you think we're screwed now better hang on to your seat.
From what I can find Global population growth peaked in the 1960's and didn't taper off until the 90's.
Whatever we're seeing now is the tip of the iceburg.

In the next 20 years I wouldn't be surprised to see population drop in waves of hundreds of millions at a time.

This isn’t just killing the elderly, this is killing people off quick and it’s very scary. A family of 8 went out to eat last week in Jersey, within one week 4 of them are dead the other 4 are in critical condition.
...

You mean this family? 7 Members of Same New Jersey Family Contract Coronavirus, 4 Dead (UPDATE) - https://www.complex.com/life/2020/03/new-jersey-family-stricken-with-coronavirus

Maybe the definition of "elderly" is a bit fuzzy but these people certainly aren't young and don't exactly look like the model of healthy living either.

I'm going to go get a few hours of cardio now to make sure I survive the four or five waves of these bugs that are yet to come over the next few decades.

Gotta throw this in here. There is NO population problem, period. Look at the American west, look around you. There is a population problem in cities where people CHOOSE to live directly on top of each other.

We need the population we have plus more, to keep the money and sales flowing. That goes for any product or service you can think of.

If we keep on with this myth about the population, we will soon be a nation of pandas who refuse to reproduce and more forward as a species.

so hysterical that they won't sell goods to you

Glad I don't live in your neighborhood. Most of the retailers in my part of the woods are happily taking any moneys offered in return for product. The ships are running on schedule, some shortages but, not many. Seriously, watching the hysterical running in circles, waving their hands, and etc. is entertaining, I can adjust to most any inconvenience and life ain't bad. You folks suffering have my sympathies though.

Well at least the planet is doing well; they actually can see to the bottom of the canals in Venice and fish are swimming there again. Air pollution such as nitrogen oxides and particulate matter have fallen drastically in China and other areas where factories and driving have shutdown. A nature reset perhaps....

You're lucky, and I'm being plain and sincere, not in the least bit sarcastic.

Yes, the hysteria here is not just unbelievable, but downright infuriating: guy at the liquour store wouldn't receive a couple of coins dropped from my hand in spite of wearing thick gloves already; I had to put them on the counter and then he still had to grab them with his gloved hand!

But, as was wisely pointed out elsewhere: "Fear is an extremely manipulative tool for social engineers. If the coup engineers can create enough panic to mobilize our frightened inner children, we will regress back to a state of childish powerlessness and compliance where we will willingly surrender our freedoms to be safe."

I live in a small town, semi-rural farming area. So far, people are behaving relatively normally, the stores are in decent shape, and it's "bringing out the best in people."

The news articles up in the Twin Cities still have the trite "10 movies to watch during quarantine to keep calm" and "how to help your pets adjust to you being home all day," "Here's the best area restaurants delivering speciality food" blah blah blah garbage. People cannot let go of the frivolous yet. I think even in the best case, a lot of people will have their worlds rocked.

From your description, sounds like we live in the same small town.

This problem is exacerbated by social engineering stacking us tightly in tiny cubicle in city's to curb our environmental impact, forcing us into mass transit to cut carbon footprint, and making anyone living in the fly over states feel like we just don't get it. I am glad I can't see any other houses, I have freezers full of food and I don't ride the bus. I could be wrong but so be it.

Diagnostic tests that are available for people with symptoms and exposure to the ill would help. Anti-viral drugs for treatment would help. Personal protective equipment for medical staff would help. An effective and safe vaccine would help. A re-established supply line of goods and services, with work-arounds for keeping social distance, would help. Public solidarity on the problem would help, including personal hygiene and public and personal sanitation would help. Maintaining morale, caring, and generosity and social cohesion would help. We have a long way to go.

Yeah, but here they're bungling the testing. Just heard of a guy in Ontario who had symptoms and went to get tested. They asked him if he had traveled, to which he answered he hadn't. Because he had not traveled they didn't deem him worthy of testing, so they sent him back home with meds. He got worse and in a week he was back and had to be hospitalised: then they finally tested him. The test came back positive... two days after he had already died of Wuhan.

Here in Idaho as well, bunglers? Or just protocol, either way it does not make sense.

I've been saying for a number of years, only partially in jest, that we needed a good pandemic to restore some balance to things.

There are too many of us for our cage. If the population were reduced by half, the remainder could continue to enjoy their over-consumption of resources for another century or two.

Probably an unpopular point of view...

Harris, don't fret. Consider it Mother Nature's housecleaning!

The desert nomad watched Death ride by and asked her, "where are you going so fast?"

"To Persia," answered Death, "to take 3000 lives".

Months later Death rode by the nomad's tent on her way back. Seeing her, the nomad impeached her, "you liar!! You didn't take 3000 lives, you took 300,000!!"

"No," replied Death, "I took 3000 and not a single one more. It was Fear who killed the others."
I never heard this fable before, where did you come across it?
