I'm not won over by it. It's certainly smokable, but to my taste, nothing exceptional.
I bought two ounces, and I'll smoke it. But I won't reorder. Same goes for their other blends like Simply Red. There seems to be a light topping there that is only necessary if the tobaccos are deficient.

If I'm wrong about the topping, then what is burning off in the first few drafts?
I don’t love Roux or Simply Red either.
There are many WCC blends I do love though. Try something else if you feel like it.

What might you recommend?
Old Black Magic
Simply Orange
558 Flake
Old Dominion Flake
American Cut Plug
Quint’s Own

I love all of these. They are for sure topped so if that’s a “no” for you, maybe don’t. If you can get past that, I say dive in because these are all fantastic. I don’t really do Lat so I can’t make any English recs.

I did try their N’oreaster but I gave it away because it was too sweet and too much Lat for me. Kind of a Northwoods vibe. I gave my Northwoods away too.

A few of the varietals in American Cut Plug are cased, but the blend is not topped. Over all, the casings are mild.

Simply Orange is mildly cased, but not topped.

Jim, can you explain the difference between cased and topped?
Casings adjusts the PH balance of raw tobacco, and as often as not, brings out the natural flavor of said tobacco. Then, it sits for a day or two so the tobacco can absorb it. Sometimes a smoker will notice the additional flavor, and sometimes not. Casings can change the flavor of tobacco depending what is applied to it, but not as much as toppings will. Toppings add a much more obvious flavor. As you know, smoking raw tobacco is not a fun thing to do unless you like your mouth literally torn to shreds.

Just to reiterate on what Jim is saying, this is a good read with info also on Casings and Toppings.
