Nope, Ernie emailed me six upcoming blends and their release dates.
Huh. I got nothing but a late-to-the-game email yesterday saying "Rouxgaroux is not in" when, in fact, it was already sold out. Happy to see Simply Red is slated to return soon. Hopefully I'm right time right place.

How much do they make like 3 lbs? Weak sauce.
Over a hundred lbs this time.
Evidently it's a very time consuming process to make this one. Keep in mind it's one guy doing it by hand in a traditional manner, rather than using a cement mixer to blend large batches. The Perique is hand cut to length, the different Virginias have different toppings, and it's all blended together manually.

Damn. I’m just mad at myself I didn’t pay better attention to the release date!! Good on them for selling out so fast if they made that much!!

With your experience, what can you compare it to?

Thanks for sharing that production quantity estimate. It's an interesting marker to think about, in terms of fast sellout and popularity on the various boards. Let's say "over a hundred" was 125 lbs. That would be the equivalent to 2k 2oz tins.

Especially with all the chatter around cellaring over the last few years many active on pipe boards are into grabbing "a pound for the cellar". Welp, thats a whopping 125 people (supply to sell-out) if everyone was buying a pound. Mix in more of purchase profile in the 4-8oz range, it's still a supply for no more than 300ish buyers. I bet 125 lbs is at the upper bounds of true custom blends from folks like LJP, Watch City, Boswell, etc. as well. Heck, a lot of limited tin releases from C&D run 5-8k of 2oz tins...so only 3x from these smaller blenders (bigger, but not immensely bigger).

Especially if there are big cellar buyers or flippers in the mix....it doesn't take a high body count to gobble up supply pretty quick!

This is not a rational market we're talking about, more like the Dutch Tulip craze. I'm sure there were guys buying 3 or 4 pounds at a time. It's the hot tobacco of the moment. Just wait a month or two and it will be a different one.

For sure, on the 18th it will be Simply Red and Rhythm and Blues selling out in 30 minutes (or less). ;)

Note....I've got no criticism of folks cellaring or talking up blends on forums. There's for sure an inside-baseball buyers/communciation game, so a public chase evens the playing field a bit. More for perspective, that 'small-batch' or 'limited' (where that's an actual meaningful production description) releases probably aren't often getting beyond 60-200 buyers. So if something is "hot" or in vogue on da' boards....it can go fast!

That's my thought. In any event I'm happy for Ernie Q

Totally agreed. And for any smokers/lurkers that haven't tried the other WC blends....do so for a real treat.

Super high quality stuff, and honestly many of the 'blend regulars' I enjoy more than the special releases. I think the specials (from a lot of smaller blendors) scratch unique itches for very experienced smokers.....but it's in no way the case that they (often) are just flat out on another level of quality from the bedrock offerings.
