Not sure if anyone has done this yet but here are some photos of a tin I bought a year or two ago

You don't know how chuffed I am to see the old 'Horse' has such a following amongst piping folks. As I said in the Chicago 2016 interview 'It makes it so worthwhile'. In fact here is the Dan and Simon Standard Tobacco interview at the Chicago Pipe Show 2016!

Man, I really don’t care for aromatics at all but this stuff is so different that it’s kinda in class of its own! I sir am or was a devoted fan. Smoked it every day! Don’t know if I got a one off in the 4 tins I just received. Every other of the over 100 tins prior was spot on with the consistent quality, flavor and strength. I mean.......damn I truly love this stuff, y’all did the world a favor reviving this tobacco! Great video by the way

About 1/3 of the way through this new tin. It breaks apart MUCH easier, just kind of crumbles when you grab it. As you can see, it’s a much finer cut and not as tightly pressed than before. Before also the flavors of the tobaccos and topping were very pronounced and constant throughout the bowl. Now, individual flavors kind of fade in and out with none being very pronounced :(image.jpg

I liked WHB but was disappointed because it was always a crumble cake, never a plug. But perhaps I misunderstand "bar", and that it doesn't necessarily mean plug?

And don't you just love it when manufacturers make a product in a way that you like only to make changes for, you guessed it, money, without a by your leave?

Well, I will say that having finished the above mentioned tin......the flavor is definitely not there at all. Wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt and burn through the whole thing before rendering judgment. Truly sad, I loved my Horse.

Did Russ ever get back to anyone about the change in flavor?
Just got a PM from Russ. He finally got a chance to pop a tin of the new stuff, he said it’s spot on correct. He suggested it possibly was a one off tin or batch and, he would know! Was waiting to hear back from the master before opening anymore tins of the stuff! Gonna bust one open tonight. Just hope it was an off tin and not the whole batch! Either way, glad to hear it wasn’t a change by the manufacturer :)

I thought you were about to nod off before you enthusiastically spoke.
