*Disclosure - we watch shows ONLY on Netflix/Amazon.
Same here ... haven't had regular "Cable TV" for 15 years now.
Recently, we watched a film called "Lifeboat" from the 40's ... 7 people in a boat ... that's it.
It was better than 90% of the crap being shown today.

I wrote a paper when I was in college about violence on television and the effects it has on children. The one fact that I learned from my research that will always stay stuck in my mind is:
The average American child will witness over 200,000 acts of violence on television including 16,000 murders before age 18.

@cobguy - I like the idea of not having a television spewing propaganda and subliminal messages all day long. Hopefully, someday and will be able to convince my wife and two daughters that televisions simply aren't needed. Don't get me wrong though, I do enjoy a good documentary.

The biggest reason I still have a t.v. package is because my NHL Game Center package will black out a game if it's shown on NBCSN, NHL Network, NBC, or Fox Sports West or Fox Sports Prime.
Maybe the fact I love hockey is part of the reason why violence on t.v. doesn't bother me.
There are some shows I do like on t.v. though. I DVR Castle, Gotham, Sleepy Hollow, Bones, Justified, Cold Justice, Curse of Oak Island, and How To Get Away With Murder.
