Great suggestions and advice, thanks everyone. So here is the pipe:

It is a '79 Dunhill Quaint, quaint indeed. (I've written about it elsewhere on the site.) I tried to take a photo inside the bowl...

Not easy to see. Seems okay... But something wasn't quite right so I took the stem off to have a look...

Looks like stained briar and no tobacco residue. No smell in there. Minute particles of brownish dust. But also something else. I had to sort of gently pry and poke and then I figure out the problem:

It was full of heroin. I ought to have guessed that based on what I paid for the pipe. Well, problem solved.
If that powder is really heroin you could sell it an buy another Drughill from the money you get for it.

Wow. didn't think I'd have to post this here but, to be clear: that is NOT heroin. It is flour. it was not in the pipe. I was just making a joke. Okay, it was a terrible joke and a bit creepy but there it is. We are in a pandemic and that's the best we can expect. Okay, and jokes like this: How were scientists sure the Covid would be popular? It immediately went viral.

sigh.

I know, I know.

I liked the attempt to lighten the thread. It was not lost on me. Dunhill threads and English pipe threads in general can get... stuffy, so it was great to see that you had a light heart and a sense of humor. I predict that you will survive here nicely.
