Here are a couple of one-of-a-kind pipes made from briar roots. The larger one was owned by pipemaker, Thomas Cristiano; I had previously mistakenly written that it was in his collection for sixty years—it was not—he bought it from a collector at a pipe show who had owned it for sixty years (Cristiano was only fifty-three when he died in 2005). The smaller one is from C-Pipe (Wilson Wang’s company). I love unusual 360⁰ grain on the rims.

I spotted a wild one today for sale. A little out of the range of what i'm willing to spend on a pipe, but amazing nevertheless. I present to you, "Radix" Pickaxe by Moonlight Pipes:

And it isn't dainty either...check out these dimensions:

OMG!!! The guy who conceived of this is WAY out there. I can't even imagine what it would look like hanging out of my mouth. Kind of like I swallowed a tree with a nest in it or something?

Expertly done but small compared to many owned by this forum's members.

And the chamber depth is only 1.43". What a wasted opportunity on something that size.
I know you like the bigguns. I also enjoy primarily over 1.5" depth to my smoking chambers, which is one of the reasons i never got into Petersons, but for the hollowed-out relief effect at the bottom of this particular piece -- especially for someone who doesn't mind a shallower bowl -- they get a little more design dynamic.

I, too, have some pipes i've compromised with. Both my Tekin and Rad Davis squashed tomatoes come to mind. I just fold and stuff some flake in the smaller bowls and still get a decent amount of time on them. They aren't worth smoking with ribbon unless you're looking for a 15 minute quickie, which, on occasion, also has its place.

That one almost got me to buy a pipe until I saw the chamber depth though sadly the bowl doesn't look wide enough for me to safely hold.

All of the prior examples are definitely beautiful (or at least “interesting” 🙂) pipes…..

But, philosophically, I think that EVERY pipe is unique in its own way. Even every machined Dr. Grabow Duke for instance…. Each one is nuanced in its own unique way. 😉

So, I thought about posting a photo of every one of my 100+ pipes here…. but, out of concern that I might forget one or two…. and to save bandwidth, I will refrain. 😂

That’s a great piece of work and cheap for what it is. I’d be tempted but I don’t know the carver, nor whether he’s technically proficient, like sleeving the bamboo.

Got one that I think qualifies- and it’s fitting for the season too- the “Franken poker”! This was from Warner Pipes; I just spent about 30 minutes trying to track him down; I’m pretty sure I found him on instagram but this was 10 years ago. Doesn’t look like he’s still carving. A shame. Grain on this one is gorgeous. It sat on my “too pretty to smoke” stack but that with change this year.
