I ordered a sample from Sterling Tobacco Company (thanks nsfisher), and got about an ounce of a blend called Chairman of the Board. It actually wasn't bad, but that's not what this post is about.
They also sent along a sample of their "Bargain Blend", which the Sterling folks say goes for $15 a pound, and please be aware the blend may change. It smelled fairly pleasant, a bit like the Mac Baren 7 seas Royal Blend I've been smoking lately, so I gave it a shot.
Lots of burn and bite, and a funky flavor. It seems you can't necessarily trust your nose. It's the only tobacco I've had lately that I dumped out half way through the bowl.
I'm interested to hear other people's big stinker reviews, and what those tobaccos were. I've found so far I can trust the consensus of posters here when it comes to taste testing.
Another one that just doesn't suit my palette was Altadis Rum and Maple (from the Tobacco Galleria line).

Haven't smoked a whole lot of different blends, but there are only two that I really couldn't stand. One being Sterling's Bargain Blend, and Bob's Chocolate Flake. I wasn't expecting the lakeland floral flavour in it, and every time I tried to smoke it, it's all I could taste. Those are the only two that I would give unfavourable reviews for.

I generally keep my reviews to myself. I would hate to disparage a tobacco someone else adores cause it's not for me. Part of my fun is ignoring others and trying it. That being said I couldn't hack half and half.

I wasn't going to post this either as I know it's a fairly well loved drugstore blend. But, Half&Half is the ONLY tobacco I've ever dumped half way through the bowl.

The only one I have ever hated in 52 years of pipe smoking is Condor RR. It at least let me know to stay clear of Lakelands.

For me the worst tobacco I've tried is Mixture 79.Anything that says Smokers Pride or Super Value- Captain Black-white would be next on the list.

I didn't quite expect something like this but it doesn't surprise me that one person hates a tobacco another person loves (Bob's Chocolate Flake in this instance)

When I try new tobacco (which is pretty much every time I buy a tin :) ) I go with stuff I've heard a LOT of good stuff about. Either that or I just go completely random. So far the tobaccos I've bought via the first method have proved to be quite splendid to me. Some examples being the GLP Jackknife plug, Penzance, and H&H Blackhouse. The second method has yielded some interested, although much less desirable results. I like letting other people make mistakes before me so I know to avoid them completely, but the adventure is fun too. And to answer the OP after than rabbit trail I have yet to find a blend I couldn't finish a bowl of. Though I've definitely had some that I'd prefer not to smoke if there are other options available.

Personally i really like bobs chocolate flake as well, not an all day smoker for me, but one of my good pipe buddies steve, smokes it at least once a day, he buys it by the pound....i get my bobs chocolate fix by mooching....
A blend that I CANNOT stand....which I know for a fact that others will disagree with...is Peterson University Flake, Its a favorite with so many people, but i cant even smoke a tiny bowl, i hate the taste, makes my stomach hurt, absolutely hate it

I havent tried too many tobaccos that I really didnt care for, but there are a few. Captain Black White isnt really all that bad, but I tried a bit of it here not too long ago and it wasnt as good as I remember it being. Mixture 79 is awful tasting, cant stand the stuff. McClellands Black Shag had a nice flavor but scorched my tongue something awful no matter how slow I smoked it. McClellands Easy Street had a weird sort of chemical flavor to it, didnt really like it at all.

Apple, it was like putting kerosene in my pipe, that was the worst ever! Also hated Holly's Non-Plus Ultra, that stuff was awful, just my opinion, don't mean to step on any toes.

The only one star review I ever posted on TR.com was for Mixture 79. I have found redeeming factors in most of the tobaccos I have smoked but not that one.

Sterling's Bargain is just the leavings spilled while packing sweep together and sold for cheap so that's what you get. I had it once and it was not bad. tavern 1776 is excellent and allot of his other blends are top notch. As far as crap goes Super Value tobaccos smell good but taste like junk.

There are several blends that I don't really care for, but I've always been hesitant to give them a bad rap because taste is such a personal thing. As far as reviews go, I always take them with a grain of salt, and there are some that I have tried, and enjoyed that didn't really review well. That being said, the few I won't buy anymore are BR, McB Vanilla cream loose cut ( have heard the flake version is better), and of course Mixture 79. BTW, the bargain blend I got with my 1776 Tavern sample was pretty decent, but I doubt I would ever order any since you never know what you're going to get with that one.

Taste is very subjective. I have not found anything English or Balkan that I can honestly say that I really like. I do enjoy Haunted Bookstore. My Lakeland sample disappeared after half a bowl. C&D Mocha YES!!!!!!

Believe it or not PENZANCE was just not for me, not the worst but would never buy it again.

Villiager 1888 Cocktail Hour which tastes good makes me have sneezing fits, which we all know is not good while smoking a pipe LOL.

C&D Crooner. Don't care at all for deertongue in my baccy. I don't like ruma and maple blends, because I can't taste the rum or maple in them. Straight Virginia's taste acrid to me.

I like rum tobacco, maple tobacco, lightly cased aromatics, VaPers, Balkans, and burley blends. Among others, lol.
