Unfavorable reviews

A well-done unfavorable review can be quite useful. This could include a review from somebody who doesn't usually smoke that sort of blend. Take this for an example:
"I do not usually smoke aromatics, and this blend is a perfect example of why. It is a typical American aromatic - heavily cased, with absolutely no tobacco flavor whatsoever. It was goopy, and improved only slightly with an hour of drying. Even then it burned very hot."
Now that's a very useful review for someone like me, who does not smoke American aromatics, but who wants to learn about a blend that everyone is raving about. That review tells me not to waste my time and money. ::

A recent sampler I bought from Pipes&Cigars contained a bag of Perfection (I think from Sam Gawith). I've tried it twice to be fair, but both times it was like smoking a cigar. It's the only tobacco I've bought that's probably going into the trash.

When I went on my quest, last Saturday, to find some of the tobaccos, recommended in another post, one of the stores gave me a sample of there "store blend." I just got around to smoking a bowl today (about 5 minutes actually) before cleaning out my pipe of the junk. I swear it tasted like I was smoking hay. It even tasted like a barn full of hay. A big yuck!
Going to St. Louis after Christmas to hit as many quality shops as possible. If anyone knows of some good Pipe Tobacco shops in the St. Louis area, please post them.

Having read reviewers on tobaccoreviews.com for years, I've found a few guys whose taste mirrored my own. In those instances I've gone on their recommendations and have been pretty happy. More ironically, there's one well-known reviewer on there who so fundamentally disagrees with me that I know if he hates something, I'll love it. Often his negative reviews have led me to some of my favorite tobaccos.
