There are far too many delightful blends to just smoke one. My feeling is that such a one is really missing out.
People are fickle and pipe smokers' regard for blends can be fickle. At times when I smoked a blend and took a bead on it and felt, "yeah, this is for me!" Then I'd smoke other blends and when I came back to it couldn't reestablish the fond feeling. Fickle?

I know I'm commenting on an ancient reply but "outgrown" does have a negative connotation. I would find it hard to smoke only one type of tobacco, let alone one brand, but if I had to pick a single tobacco to smoke forever I could narrow it down to Elizabethan, Dark Flake, or Nightcap. Simply because they are easy, never bite me, and always satisfy me while having a good flavor consistently. I like other blends much much more but couldn't smoke them exclusively unless I reduced my smoking. Which I'd prefer not to. Maybe McClelland 40th anniversary, but I'm trying to keep it real.

I could be content with one blend forever, but it would need to be a straight brown Virginia. Is Wessex Campaign Dark Flake gone forever? I've heard mixed reports. :?:

I've outgrown fears and clothes, and childish fantasies. Even some bad habits. I just think there's a better way to articulate changing preferences in taste. Outgrown can be used in haste I guess. I'll leave it at that. Ultimately it doesn't matter. Nobody should really take offense at that I just understand why it could potentially be taken the wrong way that's all.

I welcome variety.

But I easily could be very content with one pipe, one blend, one single malt scotch, one brand of cigarette, as long as I like it.

Most think Wessex C. Dark Flake is heaven. That's why it's unobtainium, I guess. I loved the tin I smoked 5-10 years but forgot about it, probably because it was hard to get.

When I hear one-blend smokers, I think of my first roommate in college. He had a closet with ten pairs of the exact same khaki pants, and drawer full of the exact same white T-shirts, and ten of the exact same polo shirts. He had a shelf with a row of about ten boxes of the exact same breakfast cereal, and boxes of the exact same crackers, which were the only things he ate, outside of the cafeteria, where he ate plain chicken for every meal. Every Tuesday, he got the exact same haircut. I saw him on Facebook recently, wearing the exact same polo shirt in every picture.
I am both appalled and jealous. To not need any spice or style... it definitely saves time thinking about things like that.

I think my biggest problem is that my cellar keeps growing - being in the discovery phase causes me to acquire tobaccos faster than I can finish them.
That being said - a garage sale pipe and carter hall started it all for me. I didn't really know anything different for several years and was at peace with it.

Yeah, trudat, & I'm one (sorta only) myself too. Almost always khakis, black socks, same shoes (diabetic, y'know), but once that's done I'm all over the place, unless you consider "Lands' End oxford button-downs" & "Hawaiian shirt of some crazy color(s)" sufficient limiting characterization. But those shirts? All over the map. Same for my leaf -- I don't just want variety, it's essential for me.

One blend? Not yet, but getting closer. Since trying an incredible number of blends the past few years ( since outgrowing Latakia, ;)) I have discovered only a few blends that I prefer over all others. Luxury Twist Flake, F&T Vintage, Cut Blended Plug, & Special Brown Flake. There are others I find "nice" or "good", but I always find myself wishing I had filled my pipe with one of these instead. I do get a pretty strong craving for something with Izmir in it from time to time, as a break, or change of pace. I think I could be very happy with only LTF and any one of the others.

I think having access to a wide variety of blends and single-leaf, especially with the enabling of online retail, makes it difficult for pipe smokers to stick with one (or a mere five) blends. With food, once you have access to a well-stocked grocery store, you tend to add variety to your diet. I do have several fall-back blends, when I don't want to think about the selection much, but variety is part of the pleasure, for sure. I am interested to see how it works on trips, with only a few blends, but since finding a time and place to smoke also gets more difficult, often times that is selection enough.

When I travel I bring 2 pipes and 2 blends. Almost always it is Dunhill three year Virginia and a local b&m blend called London Mixture.

As much as I enjoy trying new tobacco and ringing the changes I know I could just smoke Ogden's Walnut Flake or Condor Long Cut forever. I'd be happy.
