I think I am to ADD or something to smoke one blend. It would be much cheaper though haha. I always have too many jars going at one time but it is nice to have so many different blends to try when I want to. I am not a seasonal smoker either. I can enjoy latakia in the Summer as well as a good Virginia in the Winter. Same goes with beer for me. I like changing it up and I don't care if it is Winter or Summer, an ale or a porter. Now on a really hot day and I am working hard in the yard or something, then I prefer something lighter and crispy. Sorry, meandering off topic here. :puffpipe:

I could happily smoke HU's Director's Cut everyday. Fortunately, I don't have to. ;)

Sorry, went over the top on seeing an insult where none was intended. Apologies. (Though when you say you've outgrown a thing it frequently puts that thing in a lesser category)
Cheers,
John

I could be satisfied with one blend and one pipe. I sense this because I reach for the same blend and the same pipe a lot. That said, it sure is nice to have a few blends at hand to have a change of pace when the mood strikes.
Cheers,
Chili

I was a one brand cigarette smoker for a very long time. When Bruce Springsteen heard Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone the first time, he said it was like getting the doors in hid mind kicked open. Pipe smoking is that to me. So no. I would not be content with only one blend.

What is it they say, “variety is the spice of life”. Smoke what you like because there are no rules. :puffy:

I seem to remember giving them to a forum member as even Weezel didn't care to smoke the wretched stuff.
Still have that plug in a jar giving me dirty looks (shudder)... 8O

I thought the same thing when I read it, so it's not just you.
I typically take, when someone says they "outgrew" something as meaning 'kids stuff'.
I'm glad to hear there was not insult intended.

I used to only smoke Amphora back way back. When I could not find that blend I stopped smoking a pipe.
Now I smoke anything that is good. I tried the new version of Amphora, but it sucks nowadays.

I was a Marlboro Light guy. I enjoyed the taste and it delivered my fix. When I started smoking pipes and Cigars I found that tobacco was so much more than a Nic delivery system. Too many awesome taste profiles out there to limit it to one brand, type etc. I have my favorite, but I really like the search for my favorites. I am the same way with beer. The search for the perfect blend is a big part of the fun for me, though, I am doubtful I will ever find it. I'm ok with that.

Maybe I wouldn't be happy with it, but it doesn't seem impossible to think of having one tub of a tobacco I enjoy and having that familiar flavor be satisfying enough. For me it would be something non-aromatic, probably, and with more than one or two tobaccos. I can easily imagine coasting along with Russ O.' s Chestnut for quite a while. Or Billy Budd, or 965. I am glad I don't have to.

I don’t think I could just smoke one tobacco, but if pushed could smoke only two.

Both E A Carey’s Sliced Black Twist And Desert Island Mix

Both excellent tobacco’s.

But I do like to have a few more, it’s nice to have a choice. I don’t try many new ones as it’s expensive to experiment.

One thing I know for sure, in all of the guys who come into the Briary that I've met, that smoke only one thing all the damned time, is that they don't want to discuss pipes... nor tobaccos at all. They have no interest in Pipe Clubs, and think the idea is stupid and pathetic, the idea of a pipe forum seems juvenile at best. They have their one blend, whether it is PA, Escudo, or 1Q, they just smoke that one thing and care nothing in the world of talking about flavors, or anything pipe or smoking related. So, it is rare that we have very many one-blend smokers on the forum. Usually, they think tobacco talk is mundane, because they just smoke their one thing, and that's it.

I was reading this older thread with fascination. One of the primary enjoyments for me as a fairly new piper is trying all the different blends. There is so much variety in aromas and tastes, the different cuts, learning new methods and striving to get the most out of each one. Add to that the endless variety of pipes!
Same with whiskies. So many to explore! I can't imagine finding that one perfect Scotch or bourbon and never tasting any others.
If there were only one pipe and one tobacco, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't smoke at all.

If I only had one pipe and one tobacco, I'd still love to smoke.
Don't get me wrong, I love all the different flavors, cuts, packaging, etc. But if all I had was any one of my modest collection of pipes and a good straightforward blend (be it Carter Hall, Westminster, LNF, what have you), I would still look forward to lighting up a bowl.
In fact, I go on fairly long backpacking trips a few times a year, and I always take just one pipe and one tobacco with me. Part of the fun in planning for the trip is really enjoying the stuff I have on me, as I'm not wishing I had picked a different combo form the pounds and pounds of stuff in my closet ten feet away. But I'm always excited to get home and grab something different, too.
Point being, variety is good, but even in the absence of it, pipe smoking is still a pleasure.

I've smoked pipes for about seven years, and the vast majority of my smoking has been three blends: Iwan Ries Gourmet English (blended by McClelland), Carter Hall, and Frog Morton Cellar. I've been seriously branching out and discovering new blends and tastes over the past several months, and in particular finding that I like a good Virginia flake above anything else.
However, my main point being that I could limit myself to handful of blends and be perfectly happy, and could make do with nothing but Carter Hall and cobs if need be :puffy:

I’d become to bored with one blend. I do the same with beer. But if there was one blend available forever, I’d smoke it anyway.
