I have an old Alpha brand prince shape that I bought for 10 bucks on ebay. Very small bowl, but in a blind puff challenge, it rated the same taste and flavor as my Ser Jacopo bent dublin. I normally use it to test different tobacco blends.
I'll have to put my 2 cents in here for Rossi pipes. For the money, they're hard to beat. I'm talking about the newer pipes, as I have no experience with the pre-Savinelli made Rossi's. I hear they are good too, but unless you've got the extra bucks for a Sav. the Rossi pipes are pretty much the same thing within their limited range. One plus for me too is that most Rossi's don't come as filter pipes.
I love how a newer member finds a multi-year old thread and refreshes it!

I'm not familiar with your Tinderbox, but if you ever find a Tinderbox Unique - marked Made in England - grab a root and growl. It was made by Charatan and it will be a damned fine smoker.

I built my burner collection on estate seconds because it was all I could afford. Most are gone now - traded or gifted - but I've still held onto the Charatan and Sasieni segundos because they're fabulous smokers. They might not get the use they once received, but when I see them on my racks they still make me smile.
By the way, go ahead and throat punch any asshat who calls a Sav Estella a second. It's one of the finest production burners ever made and, like my rabbi taught me, I'll buy it from you sight unseen if you don't like it.
