yeah. That stuff is awesome by the way. It can help you sleep if you're having one of those nights where you just can't get the sandman to visit or to deal with pain that's not opiate level but more then aspirin. Oh and it's actually pretty full of vitamins and stuff.

I don't understand. Why would you use something other than real tobacco on a film set? I bet a lot of weed is smoked. ?

if the actor doesn't smoke you don't need them getting sick because the role they're playing smokes. You know imagine if the first time you smoked a pipe you had three or four bowls just because someone can't remember their lines. That's why.

The premise of this scene is Uncle Phil enjoying a moment of perfect relaxation with his children. That face as he exhales says it all. Of course, it's just a set-up for Will to come crashing in and announce that he's dropping out to become a comedian... shattering Uncle Phil's rare blissful moment.
It's pretty cool to watch him yell at Will using the pipe stem as an angry pointer!
I miss the days when it wasn't taboo to show a dad having a moment of supreme relaxation, pipe in hand, surrounded by family.
These days they don't have a problem portraying a dad handling stress by learning to cook meth and going on a crime spree, as long as there's no tobacco involved.

I don't know if it's anymore taboo. I am sure they got letters about stuff like that back then. Also certain channels and time slots have always shown more or less of certain things. So Breaking Bad on a "prestige" channel versus a family sit com on before the kiddos bed times isn't a fair comparison. Nah I think it's more that smoking isn't as common as it even was in the 90's and so felt to be less relatable.
