There's a few of us on here. There are still a few pipe clubs around the UK, with the London Pipe Club being the biggest (they actual meet near St Albans/Watford nowadays).

We have a pipe club in Norwich too, although we're a bit smaller! Here's a photo of the founding of the club in 1973. Some of the founding members still attend!PCN 1973b.jpgPCN 1973a.jpg

Greetings from Scotland! I think there are three of us based here in Alba and on this forum. There are several more fine chaps in the other less important regions like Wales, Northern Ireland, and, oh, what’s the name of that other one? Engle something? But you are right, I don’t think I have spotted another pipe smoker out in the wilds of the UK. Other than Jack Jarvis on Still Game. We’re a rare breed.

Norwich might not be too far of a stretch for me to find some likeminded people. I’d like to know more, I guess there is a website?

Still enjoy this random photo I took several years ago in North Berwick, and more about the dog/owner symmetry and the pipe being the element that caused it - in four trips to the UK and Ireland I'm still sure this is the only pipe smoker I saw (at least that I remember) - and at the time I didn't smoke a pipe.

That is a wonderful photo. I wish I had seen it and taken it. Trying to light a pipe in the outdoors, with a yellow Labrador who doesn’t care a jot. Perfect.

There is: you can Google Norfolk Pipe Club. Or drop me a PM and I can give you more information. I'm the current Chairman, for my sins...
Keeping it going is so important.
Take away all the nonsense noise on all forums and you’ll still have people smoking pipes, and if there’s enough to gather and share conversation and a bowl - hell, the the whole point.
So keep it going.

Couldn't agree more. I thought our government banning smoking in beer gardens would be the death knell for our club, 1 year after our 50th anniversary. Fortunately they didn't go through with it.

You guys are lucky to have such amazing pipe shows over there, but we try to keep the flame alight on our side too!

I’m new here today and wanted to get a gauge on how many pipe smokers from the UK are on the forum? You don’t see many about in the real world, hoping things might be better in the virtual one.

This virtual world of pipesmagazine.com concentrates us all - maybe a dozen of us non-expatriate Brits - into one single, intimate, virtual space. The real world, by comparison, is the acme of desolation, especially if you live out on the sticks as I do. other day, walking through the market in Ludlow, I actually saw a passer-by smoking a pipe. Population 10,000 and I've lived here six years, and that was a first for me. Thing is, you won't see me smoking a pipe when walking around the town, as I prefer to give it my full attention - so I'll sit outside somewhere, like in a pub garden or a churchyard, or I'll smoke at home or when taking a break at work on the farm (where out of the dozen people I might see in a day aside from visitors, I'm the only one who smokes anything at all). How many of us, I wonder, are invisible in this way?

I quite enjoy solitude when smoking, and I wonder how many others in the town are pipe smokers I simply don't know about for the same reason. Maybe I should advertise. But here's another thing: in these forums, talk of politics, religion and such is strongly discouraged and - though I am a religious man and a political animal, I like the feeling of peace when I'm floating off into the empyrean on a cloud of sublimated nicotine: much as I might rejoice at first if someone asked to join me and took out his pipe and lit up, I would dread him starting a conversation about what's wrong with the world and how it should be put right (unless, of course, I happened to agree with what was said :) ).

You will probably find quite a few similar souls amongst us here.
I do most of my pipe smoking sitting at home.
Smoking on the run or while doing chores is not for me.
Quiet contemplation, while not a necessity, is my preference

UK pipe smoker here! Welcome to the forum.
I'm an Englishman living in Wales. I see a few fellow pipers here in the sticks, mainly farmers with the occasional sighting when I go to town. Extra curtious to any fellow piper I see. Keep the fires burning puffy
