The thing that gets me is 100s / 1000s of ppl die of heat stroke in Spain and surrounding countries every year. I’m guessing it’s a mix of “it won’t happen to me”, not taking precautions, obviously the elderly and people just not looking out for each other which also goes back to the elderly or infirm. He’ll even here when it’s over 100 i put ice cubes in the water dish i leave out for the squirrels. The world would be a better place with a little more thought and concern for our neighbors.

I'm over 75, have COPD and live in the southern US (South Carolina). The hot temps and humidity are pretty much unbearable for me. I have to stay in the AC most of the time. When I was growing up in the 1950's my home didn't have AC. My parents used window fans and floor fans to keep the house cool. Of course being a kid in the 50's the heat & humidity didn't bother me all that much. Just think this is just around the corner.

Real 'Betty Swollocks' weather but I'm finding some respite down the boozer.
Ice Cold in Hereford
View attachment 157787Trick is to find a pub with a good 'punkah wallah' (got to be a good one in this heat) along with a steady flow of cold lager you're golden. ?
Yep, Betty has been visiting me too these last few days....did you by any chance send her down here?

Regards,

Jay.

Been a pretty tame but dry summer here in Massachusetts just west of Boston. We get some heat in the high 90s off an on most summers between July and August and sometimes even September. Not too many days I recall in the hundreds. Weather is often extreme here one way or another, and sometimes switches pretty quick. They say if you don't like the weather in New England, wait 5 minutes.

Some tricks: put a bowl of ice cubes in front of the fan, close all shades and drapes during the day, if it cools at night put box fans in upstairs windows blowing heat out with downstairs windows open to let the cool in and seal the house up in the morning, wear a wet bandana around your neck and one on your head and rinse in cool water often, find an air conditioned library or other public building. Good luck!

Here in Alabama God punishes us for being fat 3 months out of the year with the 100 degree heat and humidity.

Say goodbye to having a dry ballsack in May and don't say hello again until October.

When I was a kid we had no A/C.. we all stayed pissed off for 3 months a year.

Maybe I'll rethink my 'retire in Florida' idea...
The free state of Florida is still a better choice than Taxachusetts. While we do regularly hit heat index temps of 100-107 here in the summer out taxes are low, our energy is cheap so you can keep running the AC all day, the state is more smoker friendly than most, lol and many other wonderful things. I grew up on the space coast of Florida, did 18 yrs in Boston then 12 in San Diego, and after all that I’m back home and couldn’t be happier.

The Queens Guard definitely needs a summer uniform. Maybe a pith helmet with a plume and khaki shorts and tall socks.

People in earlier centuries used to design houses and site them keeping in mind heat and cold, with fewer windows on the windward side, shade trees to provide cooling, transoms over the interior doors for air circulation, and windows and screen doors positioned to catch prevailing breezes. It wasn't air conditioning, but it used what was available to stay comfortable.

Back to the caves.

The cool temperatures used to make UK a good place for a summer trip, and also U.S. New England.

At least you're closer to the coast than me mate. Yesterday was too much. I'd of given my right arm to have a nice sea breeze cooling down the old crown jewels.
Absolutely zero breeze yesterday....today however it's just right and I believe Betty is packing her bags to go spoil someone else's day ;)

Regards,

Jay.

I appreciate that there are hotter places, on average, than the U.K - Texas, Florida, the Sahara Desert - but it has been hotter than hot could be over here and we have none of the infrastructure to deal with it. My school literally started melting yesterday, it was a sh*t show compared to Loxton in OZ who have got their stuff in order.

I, for one, followed JimInks advice yesterday and had ‘bergs in my water’ and smoked my way through four, very nice, Lakeland blends. ?
