UK Members: How Are You Staying Cool?

I heard on the radio that it reaching 40°c in the UK right now, for the first time ever. They also said that homes there are designed to stay warm, not stay cool - only 5% of homes have AC.

So what are you doing to stay cool?

I'm worried that @mawnansmiff 'S vintage book collection will just spontaneously combust.

Same as when I lived in the Back of Beyond in Australia - cold drinks, shade, fan, paddling pool, pipes.

Also, iced water in hot water bottle for nighttime; keeps the bed nice and cool for the night.

We should better ask our members in TX&AZ and Spain how they're getting along with this heat wave, central and south west TX has predicted to reach 104-108f during this week, as far as Finland goes, most of our homes and apartment houses suck, they were build the way that they do not breath' especially those build back in 80-90,and have no A/C

Here in Florida 100% humidity and heat indexes of 105 on up are the norm for roughly a solid three months in summer. Lots of beach, pool, mall time as well as just hiding in the house. Even now i have a large shop fam on my back porch as i work remote and can’t smoke indoors. There is a 2-3 hour stretch during the afternoon that’s it just too hot on the porch with the sun shining in, the shop fam feels like an industrial hairdryer. The worst part to me is when it’s 9pm and later and it’s still a heat index of 90 outside, growing up here AC was a thing we had but couldn’t always afford to run so when i was a kid I’d stuff clean sheets in the freezer then pull them out and lay under them and hope to fall asleep while they were cool.

seem to recall it working, gave you a few minutes of comfort before you started sweating through your mattress. Now I’m an adult with a jib and my ac is set at 70 ?

a couple days last summer the ac was down so at night i would go sit in the car with the ac on to have a cigar or walk the 5 min to the beach and sit on the boardwalk at night and smoke.

Its 38 degrees today getting hotter tomorrow Iam sitting in a darkened room watching the Tour de France and drinking huge amounts of water.The wife comes in periodically and slaps a wet semi frozen face flannel on top of my head and gets sadistic pleasure as it drips down my back.

Lots of chilled orange/mango juice, fan going like the clappers, sat here almost naked....not much else I can do.

I just pity the poor buggers who have to work outside.....like the Irish Guardsmen standing outside Buckingham Palace with their bearskin hats on as per the newspaper front pages.

I can't imagine 100% humidity.....that's mad.


Here it's 51% and pretty much stays about 48%-55% throughout the year.
