How the hell do you measure decay when its half life is 80 million years?

Of course it's calculated and results only probable, but with those numbers how do you even start?
If you're not just playing with us, they use the decay rate of a sample then apply the calculation to a larger sample or affected area.

Not that I believe in them but if someone had the technology to travel many lightyears to get here, how would our primitive by comparison technology be able to detect them? We're still cavemen compared to that sort of civilization.
If they had super advanced tech I suspect they’d control our perception of them. They’d allow us to see them if they wanted, or not.

If they are so advanced they can travel here from other planets, then why do they keep screwing up and crashing their ships? puffy
Well, like they found with the F-117, microwave ovens. Some Serbian guy rigged up a load of microwaves to run with their doors open, the stealth fighters hit them with their anti-radiation missiles thus revealing themselves, Serbians said thanks and shot one down.

It'll be something like that with those pesky aliens.

This question still stands:

But a question: Article stated that something had a half life of 80,000,000 years: How the hell is that measured and then calculated?

[Extra points for explaining it in under 500 works, with no links.]

I'm no genius but I assume, by the name of the equation, to figure out something's half-life you simply take the total and divide it by two.

In this case...
80,000,000 ÷ 2 = 40,000,000

Due to the obscenely large amount of time... I don't think anybody can prove this right or wrong. 😉

A few years ago, we were watching Close Encounters, since my son had never seen it. When Teri Garr wasn't on screen, I was reading IMDB trivia, which mentioned that the French scientist was inspired by UFO researcher Jacques Vallee. I remembered that name from the 70s, when it was plastered all over books and checkout lane tabloids, and wondered what he had been up to, so I looked him up.

It was very interesting to see that over the years he changed his view from UFOs as extraterrestrial visitations to something more sinister (at least in my opinion): visitation from extradimensional beings of some sort. I'd come to a similar conclusion myself over the years.

UFOs are also the inspiration for what is objectively the best ever opening theme for a TV show:

Without stirring too much controversy, this book is where I land with the phenomenon...

I hold the same view, and although I haven't read that book, I can recommend this one from an Orthodox perspective:
