Back in the 60's and 70's I had 1 or 2 pipes and smoked everything out of both pipes and thought that was normal. Fast forward to today, I couldn't get by with only 2 pipes. I'm more like the guy shown below.

That is a great photo and clearly quite a collection. Many of us have , over the years, had more pipes than anyone really needs and some of us have reached the point where collection becomes obsession. I once knew a very nice man who had amassed a stunning collection of over 500 Castellos. Towards the end of his life he regretted that he had allowed it to happen and the impact it had had on him financially and in terms of the loss of time with family and other interests. We can't, as the saying goes, take it with us. As i have grown older i have found myself thinking about that guy more. I never had a collection which rivaled his, but now I have begun to trade multiple pipes in order to arrive at a much smaller but comfortable group of pipes. I don't golf but realize that I can see the clubhouse from here.

I’m very much a collector. I’m sure I’ll have plenty more pipes in my future (actually just bought a Peterson too). But In making myself a promise…

when I started really getting into rare and aged Cigars I promised myself I’d smoke every one of them. None are meant to just sit. This, I think, has been helpful in tamping my collector-instincts. So I’m making myself another promise now that I’ve picked up pipe smoking: each pipe must have a clear purpose BEFORE I buy them.

For now, I think three pipes will do me well (four counting the cheap one I bought initially. It’s a great smoker and great for smoking on the move, the bowl is just a bit small).

Title: Capitalize important words. [Rule 9]

I like aromatics and non aromatics. Picked up since escudo yesterday and the spice seems to ghost into other bowls. I’ve been smoking everything in one pipe for awhile now but I haven’t had ghost problems.
i got a Nording Royal Flush on the way and I figure I’ll smoke perique, Latakia, and dark fired blends in One and the rest in the other.
Being so new to pipe smoking I wanted to get y’all’s thoughts on this?
Latakia will ghost a pipe like nothing else, so you'll be tasting it in every blend you smoke in that pipe. I have pipes for English blends and pipes for other blend types. Va/Pers should get a pipe, Virginias as well, etc. I'm not totally strict about it, except on the matter of Latakia.
