You can put me in the camp of the cob converts. Formerly I turned my nose up at them, then finally gave it a try. I now enjoy one, especially if I need a "mindless smoke"...

Just got a new General 3 days ago... love that thing. Smokes great, and the aroma from the bowl is very complimentary to the Drew Estate Central Park Stroll I was smoking... very nice indeed.

I also used to think cobs were a novelty until joining this site. I have had 2 Country Gentlemen for over 18 mos and picked up 2 Cobbits ( a Shire and a Dwarf) around Christmas and actually prefer the cob with my morning smoke and coffee (when I get one). Today I am enjoying some 2003 Christmas Cheer in my Shire. Some people may scoff at smoking 12 yr old baccy in a cob, but I love it. No screwing around with after smoke care first thing in the morning.

I grew up reading "Lil' Abner", so my impressions of corn-cob pipes were largely cartoon-based. One gift, one grab-bag, and a few semi-random purchases later, I'm a fan. MM has something for nearly everybody - small bowls that work great for lunch breaks, larger bowls for more relaxed smoking, filtered and unfiltered options for those with preferences (I toss mine), different stem lengths and bends, different bowl textures and shapes, and now they've got the Forever Stem operation more or less in-house as well.
Now that the weather is cooperating (mostly), my friends who smoke pipes are starting to remember to bring theirs over when we hang out - but I'd still like to get a few more unsmoked to have on hand as loaners/gifts.

I smoke a cob full usually every evening and believe me, I love my briars and I've got several that are truly supurb smokers but I still enjoy a cob full of Virginias or a burley blend. I'm still test driving the C&D sample of Old Grove (which is growing on me) and it sings in my cobs. I always have a half dozen of so on hand just to give my briar some additional rest, in the summer I'm smoking 3-4 different pipes every day, I'm not quite up to a 7 day rotation set with my briar pipes so the cobs allow me to give them the needed rest (for my liking). It's not really a rule that you can't smoke a briar pipe more than once a day, many do, I just like a well rested pipe each time I smoke. The amount of smoking I do daily is at the mercy of the weather too so there's no set schedule. I also love seeing those cobs hanging on the rack in the drug stores and rarely do I leave the store without grabbing one just so they'll reorder.

I've been meaning to pick up a few cobs but haven't yet. Before joining this forum they were completely under my radar. I now see their value and will keep one or two unsmoked ones handy for visitors.

Stickframer,

I gather you work outside a bit?

The cob is a great smoker and you don't need to worry as much when you forgot where you left it!
I really enjoy the 2 I have, for walks in the woods, and when I'm just sittin' outside enjoying the sunset.
Enjoy!

I love my cobs. I have a MM Diplomat Kolonel, and 2 Legends. My Walgreens pharmacy pickup has a looser stem fitting which i do not care for but the other two from aristocob.com are great! Kolonel is one step down from the general (smokes about an hour to hour and a half).

That Wasp is pretty cool! :)
It just so happens that I recently re-organized my rotation ... it had gotten way out of control!
Here's the new, improved, able to find things version:

Picked up a third today - another bent stemmed Legend, this time with the vertical sides and flat bottom, like a Poker. It has thicker walls than the Rob Roy shape. Smoked a bowl of Prince Albert. Firing up another, this time with Dunhill London Mixture.
I found a history of Missouri Meerschaum that's better than the one on their paltry site.

Well, if you like them, you should buy at least one of their bags of seconds. They're grab bags, but they're all small imperfections that don't intrude on their purpose. It's like cellaring pipes.
