Do you know WKRP in Cincinnati? The station dropped turkeys from a plane to promote the station but turkeys cannot fly.
Not completely true. I do remember that episode though.?turkeys cannot fly.
… and they mounted a counter attack ?
You know, I remember seeing that episode back in the day. I loved WKRP, especially crushing on Baily Quarters. But, I remember thinking WTF, turkeys can fly. Any turkey hunter should know this. They would have at least been able to glide in. But, the problem is that domesticated turkeys raised on a farm can't. And, in the episode, they were brought in from a turkey farm. Not completely true. I do remember that episode though.?
Ours could well enough to escape their enclosure but the little shits couldn't fly well enough to avoid being caught.the problem is that domesticated turkeys raised on a farm can't
He obviously never visited Kentucky. While a myth that Benjamin Franklin purposed a turkey as a national bird/symbol, it’s interesting that he favored it over a bald eagle, thinking it is “a much more respectable bird, and withal a true original native of America”. He wrote that the bald eagle is bird of bad moral character, and does not get his living honestly as he is too lazy to fish for himself.

So, Les Nesman just made the same logical mistake that anyone who knew at least a little about turkeys would have made. But, they didn't exactly elaborate for the viewers. Maybe because it wouldn't have been as funny to have to explain. But, yes wild turkeys can fly, at least somewhat.
Yeah, I thought the same… Every wildlife show that I’ve seen highlighting an eagle always has footage of them dive-bombing into the water for fish, but evidently they’ll also steal food off of hawks and other animals.

Perhaps not when dropped from 2000 feetNot exactly cross country birds, but turkeys can fly.
They would cover quite a bit of ground upon impact.Perhaps not when dropped from 2000 feet
They have the physical ability to glide from that height, a long ways. Whether wild turkeys would have the instinct to do so when dropped from a plane is a different question.Perhaps not when dropped from 2000 feet
Good to know in case I do a Thanksgiving Turkey giveaway. They have the physical ability to glide from that height, a long ways. Whether wild turkeys would have the instinct to do so when dropped from a plane is a different question.
Domestic turkeys: Not a chance.
