Not completely true. I do remember that episode though.?

You know, I remember seeing that episode back in the day. I loved WKRP, especially crushing on Baily Quarters. But, I remember thinking WTF, turkeys can fly. Any turkey hunter should know this. They would have at least been able to glide in. But, the problem is that domesticated turkeys raised on a farm can't. And, in the episode, they were brought in from a turkey farm.

So, Les Nesman just made the same logical mistake that anyone who knew at least a little about turkeys would have made. But, they didn't exactly elaborate for the viewers. Maybe because it wouldn't have been as funny to have to explain. But, yes wild turkeys can fly, at least somewhat.

While a myth that Benjamin Franklin purposed a turkey as a national bird/symbol, it’s interesting that he favored it over a bald eagle, thinking it is “a much more respectable bird, and withal a true original native of America”. He wrote that the bald eagle is bird of bad moral character, and does not get his living honestly as he is too lazy to fish for himself.

He obviously never visited Kentucky.

Dear sir, you should receive a tin of C&D's Ye Olde Turkey Giblets for that clarification.
