It will be the only way to ensure you are not getting an inferior "Acadian Blend."
Riverpiper, did you read blendtobac's post?

BTW, in as much as I actually prefer Acadian Perique, I for one wouldn't describe it as inferior. Adulterated, maybe. :puffy:

You can blend your own pure St. James perique by purchasing some whole leaf perique. A quick internet search will help you to find vendors. It will be the only way to ensure you are not getting an inferior "Acadian Blend." Once you taste the unique flavor of true St. James, you will laugh at Mr. Ryan's stuff.
You've been a member here for 2 years, only posted twice, and THIS ignorant crap is what you choose to post? What happened? The bridge you live under get demolished?

Pease said that Acadian perique is superior to St. James at the time C&D started using it. But several here have said the blending industry started using Acadian as a measure to bring harmony between its availability and the price of manufacturing blends made with it. This makes me wonder if Pease made the statement to be in-line with an inevitable change in the industry.
In about 2004 I called Percy Martin and ordered three pounds. One of his sons answered the phone, and I knew immediately that I was talking to a farmer with a phone stationed in the middle of their house. When I got the tobacco only the mid rib had been removed, and I decided I would remove all the stems. After six hours work I'd only cleaned 100g. I called Craig Tarler for advice and he told me that stems are part of tobacco, which was just what I wanted to hear as it saved me from hours of work!

I just don't understand the Mark Ryan haters. Even if you are Percy Whatshisname, why not just talk up your product and not put others in the biz down. I don't remember hearing Mark ever say your name.

Ultimately, I don't think anyone seriously (other than maybe a passing thought) wonders where the perique in Escudo, Annie Cake, or Haddos comes from. Honestly, I could care less if it was grown in New Orleans or New York, if it tastes awesome, then so be it.

It was nice to go visit La Poche, kind of like visiting a legend. The rhetoric-ors is like those assholes on a Wild West tour that keep saying, this isn't the real town of Tombstone, or Wyatt Earp didn't really do that, or it didn't really happen that way. You know, the guys you just really want to punch in the face while you are enjoying the product.
Mark is the face of perique for me. I don't know this Mr. Percy, but you two just go wrangle out your differences behind the scenes. You go tugging on Superman's cape, you might as well piss into the wind. Or something like that, ha ha.

I don't understand. Are you saying he said that the stems are shredded along with the leaf?

Yup. I think Mark deserves a lot of credit for helping to save perique and getting more awareness of the process out there.
BTW, what ever happened to the OP? He was my secret Santa victim giftee last year. I often liked Harvey's posts.

Crashthegrey, that was my impression as well, that riverpiper is fronting for leafonly.com. Surreptitious, and not very good business practice, if true.

Dam.. I hope not. I was thinking more along the lines he was a shill for the FDA and ATF trying to get us to start selling processed leaf without a manufacturers permit!

Spot on Dan, his only other post was puffing the website. All rather sad really and perhaps ought be dealt with by those who wield the big sticks around here?
Regards,
Jay.
