The Periques in the RO Series Perique Blends are straight St. James Perique, processed by Mark Ryan, but they come from individual growing regions within St. James Parish, so they can be considered "varietal" Periques. Mark only did this one year, so the quantities are very limited and only used in the RO Series Perique Blends and in our Golden Triangle series. If you want true St. James Perique, there's a 50 gram tin included in the Golden Triangle Collection.
Acadian Perique is made by blending St. James Perique with dark air-cured tobacco that has been processed in the same manner as Perique. This not only helps with availability, but it also produces a more consistent product from year to year.
The dark-fired tobacco that is Perique-processed is called Acadian Black and is only used (to my knowledge) in McClelland's Royal Cajun series and in the Tsuge Gods series.
