Welcome. Your user name is interesting in that my hal-brother was a Livingston. As to my user name, well my family hasn't actually lived around the emerald isle for around 180 years or so.
Hello, Earl ... Am currently in British Columbia, in a house, in a forest, on a moutainside overlooking a lake. Thank you for your greeting. Very sincerely, PL

@Livingstone,
A warm welcome from Sydney, Oz
Erinmore was one of the blends I started out with in the early 1970s
Still one of my favourite blends today.

Originally from Malaysia, but resident in Australia since 1967.
Schooled by quite a few Irish teachers.
Which may or (not) have influenced me in my choice if my Irish(and Scottish) wife 😏

Here‘s hoping to hear a lot more from you
Hello, 'Oz' ... I am in British Columbia where pipe tobacco is effectively forbidden ... cannot buy any more once current supply is gone. The pipe has been my only friend all these years, so I currently enjoy one pipe a week. Living in isolated forest provides constant peace and quiet - a family of bears, deer, and the birds mean that one pipe a week is enough.

As to "more from [me]", I am (honestly, afraid to put anything out - especially since looking around the Internet today ... I have a site that I shall probably close soon (?) - feel free to wander over there and have a look at the pipe photos, if nothing else. Not sure what to do as the Internet seems not to be any place for a Plain Living Man who has never owned television or technology. Opened the site on the 25th Oct; after this afternoon, certain that it was a mistake. Will think about things tomorrow. Many thanks indeed for being kind enough to provide a welcome. Thank You. PL

@Livingstone @Chaukisch I've smoked a packet of Erinmore Mixture in my clay pipes; I found it burns hot in a clay.
This clay pipe smoking Redcoat welcomes you to the forum from Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
My favourite places to smoke a clay pipe are Cromford and Old Brampton churchyards.
I'm interested in traditional crafts such as weaving, basket making and woodcarving. I made myself a handmade linen shirt during the COVID pandemic based on a Viking / medieval pattern.
Too much technology can be a curse; Dad says if I wasn't into computers I'd be like the Amish...
Greetings, Dan ... The Amish are a very apt comparison - we live identically here, save having just acquired Internet (opened site on 25th Oct) ... solar power allows a tea kettle, refridgerator and such. Never, in over 35 years with pipes, experienced this 'burning hot' phenomenon and thought it bizarre when I encountered people mentioning it during my YT attempt back in 2008-10. Then again, people also mentioned "tampers" - we always used a forefinger to tamp ... I have clearly lived a very different lifestyle! It was what "offended" folk back in 2008, I found out: I would never 'fit in'.

Well done indeed, on the shirt ! If you have a photo somehwere, I would be very interested to see ... Yes, I would agree with your father - this current foray is my "Great Attempt" at technology by opening an Internet Site and even being on the internet using a 2nd hand MacBook - just wanted to try it ... though, did not like my 'look around' once I left this site (?) forum (?) earlier this afternoon. Very glad to have stopped by here, but, honestly, nowhere else on the internet that I would want to visit. Weaving, Basket Making, Woodcarving - we would be able to spend an afternoon quite well in each other's company, I am sure. Thank you for introducing yourself. Kind Regards to you, PL

Welcome from the Ireland of the South Pacific…Aotearoa New Zealand.

Gosh I hope you are sitting on a tonne of condor plug and have zero interest in it 😂
Have swept the snow off the solar panels and am simply sitting in 10 acres of forest in British Columbia, overlooking a lake, with one family of bears and several deer ... for whom I have plenty of interest! Many thanks for stopping by to say hello. I hope that this little reply finds you in good spirits. All the best for now, P Livingstone

wow that's a good place to start. The tobacco. Ireland seems nice too. Oh and we're such nerds here that we love any tobacco history stuff.
Hello Bob ... Ah well, Presenting a mass of Traditional Countryman's Pipe on video did not fare well 12 years ago. Feel free to have a little look at the phots on my Internet Site while it is there, if you would like. Just not sure what to do with regards staying on the Internet, at the moment. Always a pleasure to meet folk who are interested in Old Paths. Very much appreciate your kind greeting. Thank you. PL

Happy smokes from Northern Germany and welcome to this fine forum. puffy
Technology can be a wonderful and marvelous thing but it's also a blade with two edges, and one of those edges is very sharp. If you don't know what side or site you face you can easily cut yourself.

However, in this little part of the web you'll only get tongue bite if you're unexperienced and smoke too hastily.
Comparable with all the information a new piper has to deal with.

You'll be well here, enjoy!
Sehr erfreut! "New Information" - I recall well, back in 2008, being asked questions by 'new pipe smokers' ... then, not hearing from them for a week after replying ... going to their YouTube page, and seeing a "How to (whatever the question was that they had just asked me about)" video that they had 'posted', which repeated everything that I had said in an effort to help them. I managed to remain on YT for 2 years, but by 2010, German, Danish, and and a Swedish gentleman had left the 'pipe community' (it truly was becoming quite childish) which obliged me to follow. I thought that I would try now, 12 years later. Thank you for your kind welcome. Sincerely, PL

Noticed the reference to "A Pipe and a Book" which have served as my sole entertainment all these years ... And now, trying technology and having had a 'look around' the Internet - outside of this forum, feel obliged to say that I seemed to have missed nothing of value through a Plain Life and Old Paths. Many thanks for the Welcome from Texas! PL

Welcome! The comment about having lived so long with limited technology makes me wistful. While the Internet does have a positive role to play I often think technology has made our "real lives" as much poorer as richer. But then again, I'm probably one of only a handful here without a smart phone, who doesn't text, has never had a social media account of any type, and still uses Post-It Notes (instead of an electronic calendar) to remind me of things... :)
Thank You and Hello! No, I saw no riches whatsoever in technology: I served as a lecturer in a field of "Essential Principles of Dress and Deportment for Professionals" - watched and listened, and saw humanity degrading in dress and mental competency ... Never once regretted the fact that My father would not have a television in the house when I was a boy --- (I do remember, in 1970, going to a house down the street to see a 'real colour TV': first one of any family that I had heard)

--- and I never saw any need to have one when I left to go off on my own. By 1990, people could not string six sentences together grammatically, and I saw the rapid decline in everything, from morals to mentality, as being down to that brain-emulsifying, electronic box. Glad that someone else still exists on earth who is refusing to turn themselves into a machine. Thank you so very much for your words of greeting. Nice to 'meet' you! PL

Welcome from Pennsylvania and New York.

There are a lot of great people here—your voice would probably be refreshing here. I hope you’ll give this forum a chance and stick around.
Yes, Thank You for your words of encouragement --- Truly, to remain on the Internet, I would only be visiting here ... I did start an Internet Site, but after this afternoon, What I saw today truly disturbed me (as far as general vulgarity, cloying rules about not "offending" childish individuals - censorship (!) that is beyond my capacity to have even imagined - there must be no maturity left on earth whatsoever (?) ) - That Internet out there is just not an environment for me at all. I do feel much better here, having met many nice and welcoming folk ... Will certainly take your advice and think about things a little more. Thank you very much for your thoughts, truly. Regards, PL

Like anything, the Internet has its pluses and minuses. As a book collector, it has been a valuable resource to me and made it possible to find things from all over the world the last twenty-two years that I could only dream about before being online. Selectivity is the key: make use of what works for you, and disregard the rest.

Thank you your considered responses to each member.

Someone posted recently about the recent imflux of new members.
Unfortunately most introduce themselves and are not heard from again.
Or pose a query or three, and having got what they seek (hopefully) disappear into the ether.

The members here will poke fun/yank your chain from time to time. Curmudgeonly at times, but overall are a generous lot.
Most mornings I check in for my quota of mirth before I start my work day. Gets me off in the right mood

Stay around or visit when you're so inclined
Cheers. Ray

Many thanks indeed, for the kind welcome. I had a 'look around' the Internet this afternoon, and can see little point in my staying ... The looming threat that any utterance involving moral integrity or discernment may see one censored and removed ... not an environment for me. Your greeting today, however, is very much appreciated. Thank you once again. PL
Don’t cede ground of “the space” to bad people. Have a great Sunday!
