4N is also selling crusty-rusty GLP tins at top dollar. And he has this disclaimer :
"Please note: Over time, seals on tins may wear out or come undone causing the contents to dry out.

Re-hydrating is simply a matter of adding moisture to the tobacco.
4noggins.com cannot guarantee the condition of the contents of any of these older tins. There are no refunds for consigned tins."

I just got an order of Rattray Marlin Flake in fron the new 4Noggins. It was the first order that I placed with them not just since Rich sold the company, but since he gave a big FU to his domestic clients.
The order was priced right, packed smartly, shipped fast. They’ll be getting more of my business.

Consignment section does have New Germain and Esoterica...Hum...I have purchased little Before and After so no history with me. I did pickup Rattray's DARK FRAGRANT, HAL O' THE WYND, MARLIN FLAKE, SG CABBIE'S MIXTURE and priced in-line.

There is a 2oz tin of Penzance from 2016 for $66. For something so rare and so darn difficult to get, is this really worth it?
I checked on the few B&M's in my area and both already sold out. This stuff seems so elusive. I just wonder if it's worth the effort, never having tried it.

It is to somebody. Personally, I don't like Penzance. What I'm finding interesting is that Stonehaven is now selling for more, sometimes a lot more, than Penzance. There were two of the ivory colored bags up for auction this week and the Stonehaven went for nearly $100 more for the 8oz bag than the Penznace.

Having never tried that stuff I couldnt tell you. I am not buying without trying some first, and I could get 10 oz of my favourite tobacco for that much that has to be a better choice.

I decided I'm not going to go to great lengths to obtain and try Penzance. This whole chasing after a pipe tobacco has become silly to me. I was able to get an 8oz bag of Margate and was excited to try it. I could tell the tin (bag) note was different, but smoking a bowl I thought " ya, it's different, but not so much so that I think it was worth the effort and expense to really wow me."
Too many other available tobaccos I want to try and compare to keep chasing the rare, unobtainable stuff.

Yeah, this freakin "chase the tobacco" game is getting old. Kudos to those who refuse to get caught up in it.
I could be quite happy with nothing but GLP blends. And as of late I'm finding I like fresh tobacco rather than most aged tobaccos.
A blind taste test would be interesting to conduct-to see who could pick out the aged versus fresh.

Likewise, this paranoid purchasing glut is becoming laughable. My local B&M has no problem putting tins of most Esoterica and Germain in their pipe tobacco case. I like the Dorchester and Tilbury, Margate is just OK, but Pembroke is just gross (I have 8oz of it I'll never smoke). I'm also not too fond of the steel wool cut, it just smokes too fast if dried out, and too goopy straight from the tin. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
I personally feel that Rattrays, Wessex, and some of the Sam Gawith offerings are head and shoulders above Esoterica in terms of my own smoking enjoyment.

Go back a decade or so and there were no panics regarding the Esoterica line. About the only Esoterica blend that got much buzz was Penzance and it was just one among many English blends on the market. Deliveries were regular. The stuff was always available. Then, without warning, the shipments were interrupted and panic ensued. Shipments remained sporadic until a couple of years ago, and panic buying and hoarding continued over the years. Now it's primarily Penzance and Stonehaven that are the ideé fixe of pipe smokers and the other Esoterica blends not so much.
Personally, I like Dorchester, Tilbury, and Dunbar a lot. I like Stonehaven on the rare occasion, maybe a few times a year, so a bag of it is like a 10 year supply. Penzanace leaves me cold. There being almost no local sources for pipe tobacco left in Los Angeles, I found a few distant B&M's with no Internet presence from whom I could buy a stash of what I like, so I'm no longer chasing anything.
There are a lot of great blends readily available made by a lot of different blenders. Rattray's and GL Pease produce English blends that wipe the floor with Penzance so far as I'm concerned.
But I also understand the desire to experience a much touted blend. It's just that the high level of hype is rarely rewarded.

Wonder how laughable it would be in a year if your local B&M closed tomorrow? And how laughable would it be if internet tobacco sales were banned at the same time? And will you be rotflmao if tariffs and taxation drive a 50 gr tin of pipe tobacco to $25 plus? I hope for everyone's sake, including mine, these things don't happen. Many of us don't have the luxury of a well stocked local B&M. To put it into perspective, I'll bet I have more tobacco on the shelf than any B&M in the state of Indiana.
