My father used to say “there’s places that people just weren’t meant to live”.
Looks like we're committed to moving to Louisiana. When we talk about Maryland to my kids friends/neighbors they generally ask "how do you deal with the snow storms". My reply is always it ends in a few days and no one loses a roof. Wish us luck...

Watch this EF-3 rated (appx 150mph wind speed) storm say hello to a building,
When I first saw that last week my initial thought was it was somehow 'tampered' with but no, it's genuine footage.

I can only imagine how terrifying it would have been to be inside that building as apparently 12 poor folk were.

Mother Nature, a force to be reckoned with.

Everyone is so scared of tornados. Sure, sure, they make great videos, but we deal with them things all the time. You bunch of wusses. First off, even if one hits your neighborhood, you've got a 98% chance it won't be your house. And, of all the houses I've seen hit, the people walked out of them unscathed.
I was in one that took out the house when I was a kid, hunkered down in a cellar... plenty of warning, walked out unscathed to find everything gone, as if the house was just wiped off the planet. No big deal, no one hurt. We just walked around looking for a few things that might be ours that we might need. It really brings out a sense of community.

During a warning, everyone stands on the porch looking to see how close it might be. Never has one been so fast that we couldn't trot back to the bathroom and close the door. Might want to put dogs in there and any kids... to keep from tripping over them if we did have to jog back. But, other than that, what's the big deal?

Sure sure, cool videos. Been there in the midst of it before. I'll chose to live in tornado territory where you have micro slim chances of getting hit, and if you get hit, so what... as opposed to living where it gets cold. When you live where it gets cold, the women all wear too many damned clothes. puffy

We've had tornado warnings and downblasts in Connecticut as well but nothing that I recall of this size and destruction. (Usually some trees in the woods get blown down) I saw some more videos this morning of the damage to Barnsdall and Bartiesville (???) last week and I am amazed that only one person was killed and 8 injured ... It does not look like all these homes had underground bunkers but maybe they do ... I wonder how people survive that kind of storm ... complete destruction.

One town had 44 mins notice and the other, apparently, little or no warning. I pray for the people there but wonder how they could have survived. It reminded me of the Tsunami that hit in somewhere asia few years ago. Here's a column with more twitter videos :

The odds, you play the odds. And, even when one hits, as long as you are in a room with no windows, you're good. Underground cellars are ideal, but not essential. Mostly it's the yanks that move down here that get the bunkers.

However, tornadoes are absolute proof that God hates trees. It's the trees that take the brunt. As I've said, our neighborhood gets hit frequently, but it gets one house, skips a few, gets the next, takes down a line of trees, and leaves. No rhyme or reason... it's always kind of exciting. We have a bathroom with a crowbar, sets of shoes for wife and me, and extra leashes for dogs. All tucks away under the sink neatly with extra room for toilet paper storage. And, one of my chainsaws is under the stairs, fueled up for grab and go action. First man at the scene with a chainsaw is the man in charge, so we get kind of competitive with helping each other.
