+1 on the Sutliff Ready-Rubbed Match. When I first got it, the cocoa scent seemed over the top for something that wasn't advertised as a chocolate aromatic. But after some drying time for each bowl, it becomes a nice mellow sweet smoke.

Burleys are my favorite, so it is tough to limit to just three, but I will try. I will also try to stick with burleys that have some sweetness to them since that is what the OP wanted:

C&D Pegaus: a great Runowski blend that is well balanced. The cavendish in this blend comes in big chunks and really sweetens the blend, but not overly so.

Boswell Old School: Boswell's take on an old-school codger blend a la Prince Albert. His rendition is both sweeter and bolder. I know you asked for no codger blends, but I'd recommend this regardless. It's like a gourmet take on PA.

Peterson Irish Whiskey: I prefer Irish Flake, but for something sweeter, IW may be just for you. It's a solid tobacco that is sweet but still has plenty of body and oomph.

Has anyone tried Wessex Burley Slice, Or is it a Unicorn?
I have a tin of Solani Aged Burley Flake , Wessex Burley Slice, and Cobblestone Hiking, they are all going through Kohlhase and Kopp, and at least look similar (different casing/topping?) I want to compare them when my taste comes back but supposedly they are all very similar. The Cobblestone Hiking is the easiest to get and the cheapest , I feel like it might be somewhat of a sleeper while people go a Unicorn hunting. I've heard mixed reviews but one said it was the most flavorful of the bunch I must say I did enjoy the ABF and am looking forward to the comparisons but you might want to give Hiking a try while you hunt down others if you want a rich flake and obviously Mac Barren HH Burley Flake is easily got. If you have not had Mac Barren HH Bold Kentucky its got some tang and zing that can't be beat, hell the whole HH line is lovely.

I like sweet Virginia blends, they are my favorite followed closely by good Orientals, and I'm not much of a fan of burley at all. That said, I do enjoy Sir Walter Raleigh regular (red tub) on occasion, sweet molasses overtones and always ready right out of the tub, no fuss needed.

It’s not always in stock most places, but I wouldn’t call it a unicorn. It’s a high quality flake, I enjoy it. When fresh it tasted very nutty and “outdoorsy” for lack of a better term. After a year it developed a much deeper and sweeter taste. Rich molasses is how I would describe it. It’s good stuff 👍

Is the kbv blend an aromatic?

I’d say it’s borderline. There’s enough burley but also enough coffee to make it a bit murky in classification. That’s my opinion, though.

All I know is it’s good. I found that aromatics were what drew me to pipe smoking, then they made me feel like I was an inexperienced newbie so I departed. They get bad press because some tend to be goopy and/or cloying and some folks never go back to them after “graduating” because they’re afraid their friends will make fun of them, but I think if you know how to smoke them, they can be incredible.

Regarding BMP, I take it straight from the Mylar and into the bowl. Zero drying, zero relights, fine white ash. Add a cup of coffee and, as Ken suggests, some cream in your coffee, and you’ll be in heaven. They compliment each other very well.

I think it’s definitely worth a try. I may buy some of what he currently has available to see how it compares to the stuff I bought years ago. If it’s as good, I’ll reinstate my offer to buy it off of anyone who tries it and doesn’t like it. I think only one person ended up not liking it and selling me a bag after trying it.
