I have been "fired," "laid-off," "terminated," "down-sized," etc., etc., etc. more times than is seemly, and it always hurts. Accordingly, I can commiserate.
Take a day to pout about it (and enjoy a pipe or two), and then pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start again, wiser for the experience. Your next job is waiting.

Jason, I don't know if this will help or not... but in extremely similar circumstances I lost my job in 1989-90 with my wife and two toddlers and an infant at home at the time. Needless to say I was a mess. Out of many tidbits of sincerely helpful advice that came my way there was one that really struck home and helped get me off of dead-center and moving forward again. It was a saying attributed to some zen source:
"Leap, and the net will appear."
I didn't believe it at the time but I did it anyway(leap) and it did(the net appeared). I ended up far better off than I had ever been in the previous jobs. Anyway, best regards and best wishes to you!

Thanks for the encouraging words fellas. I don't intend to sit idle long. I have an idea brewing, but well see.I have worked in many fields. Textiles, transportation, warehousing. So, I adapt.
randelli, I signed up on linkedin. Maybe that will stir something up. Thanks.
pappymac, we printed only paper product goods, magazines, local busineses needs, mailers, etc. I worked as a CSR/Account Specialist. I also ran and managed a print center and post office at a local collge. We lost that account 2 years ago. That one hurt. I'm in mid-west Georgia.
jerwynn, exactly what I have in mind. I'm using a contact from the previous job to maybe get a foothold in a new company starting up in the area. It's a tire manufacturer and they will be building a huge plant locally by 2018 and they are just setting up shop to get things going. I'd like to think they'd need a local guy who knows the area and needs a liason/admin type person to help them familiarize with the area. Its a thought.

I fondly remember my first surprise layoff in 1982...We an appointment that afternoon to close on buying our first house. 8O It all worked out fine. :clap: Go get 'em Jason. ::

I know what you've dealt with, I spent 8 years at one of the country's largest newspaper companies. It shrunk and shrunk over the years and we always looked over our shoulders. Poor management and stubbornness to adapt to the digital age severely hurt them.

Really sorry to hear this. Having worked in an industry where one works on a project to project basis, which means I've been laid off maybe 300 times, I have learned the following:
You have skills. You will find the next great thing. You will be fine.

That sucks, man. Hopefully it's just the door to your next opportunity opening. Here in the aviation industry, the combined effects of 9/11 and the Great Recession of '08 have us waiting for the other shoe to drop every single day.

My father worked in the aviation industry as an engineer and designer for close to 50 years and during all those decades, they were always waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Well some good news. After 8 weeks of unemployment, I will start my new job Monday. Its a lateral move, but more chance for advancement(and a very short commute). Thanks for the support guys.
