I know some dudes in Denmark, which is also in the EU, who order from an online retailer in Switzerland, which is not in the EU. They all claim that if they order bulk or pouches and order small quantities, like 100g or so, it never gets intercepted. The company is called synjeco.ch. The owner makes nondescript packages with no clue to the contents if you ask him. They carry a wide array of blends, including some from U.S.

I'd recommend keeping order not exceeding 250gr/5 pouches
This. Not only are the parcels smaller and more likely to pass unmolested, but a large order might get a customs officer doubting that so many tins are for your personal use—rather, he'll assume that your real purpose is to resell (in which case no tax will go to the gov't's coffers).

I have had the idea for a crowd sourced import business for years now (I will never put it together, because I have other things on the go) for situations somewhat like this.

People arrive in countries with the allotted maximum and get a percentage. For tobacco, it's not likely so attractive, but maybe it is in places like Australia. In countries like Brazil, where "imported" electronics are ridiculously priced, there's a good profit margin if you have a buyer.

You could bring a new computer (certain models) and sell it at enough profit to take off about half your plane ticket. I think the game consoles that people are into are about the same.

A B&M in Sao Paulo used to be stocked with good imported blends, with exactly this scheme.

I'm guessing it is somehow illegal, but I've never seen exactly why. Just an assumption. If you could organize the masses, you'd have a pretty good racket in some places.

As the thread title says, it is a sad day.
Today I received a letter stating that my package with 1kg+ (less than 1.5kg) worth of C&D tobaccos was intercepted by Customs officials and it is being destroyed. And from my interpretation, they threatened me not to attempt to buy again.

I will call the customs as to figure out if there is a loophole that I can exploit. Did anyone have similar problems?

Don’t know the rules & regs round that way so I’m curious what the actual issue is that means customs have intercepted/destroyed it?

My man, that is not right, who in their right mind, would destroy pipe tobbaco, it is tasty and relaxing, I don't understand this nonsense.

In the US, there’s always the risk that any foreign shipped items of a certain category can be seized and destroyed.

A few years ago Chinese Gibson guitar copies and Cuban cigars were being confiscated in Chicago in huge numbers.

The Netherlands

That is absurd, as an EU member state there is a unique importa tarif codification that the Netherlands should abide by. This codification is called TARIC, and according to the TARIC database the pipe tobacco codification is 24031100 and it is subject to a 74.9% import tax. To this depending on local regulation and quantity one may add the local tobacco excise. Yes, it comes up to an absurd amount of money to be paid in tax to the government in order for you to receive that parcel, but destroy it? It is either a piece of dutch legislation that I am not aware of, perhaps treating your parcel as contraband or something of the sort, or there is a big error in the middle here. I would definetly call them and sort things out ... although if the public official's behavior in the Netherlands is somewhat similar to the ones in Romania, you may be better off to write it off as a loss.

Aw, really? I live in the Netherlands as well, and was just about to place an order from the US :(

Would you mind sharing the exact wording of the letter you receive (in private, if you prefer)? I'm curious. But I think my plans of restocking on GL Pease are delayed :(

If I am not mistaken; the blends from Zwitserland costs 24euro per 50gr. Far too expensive for my taste

I suspect Customs workers worldwide have an entrance exam where you have to prove a certain level of dickishness just to get hired. I had a stick of Spanish chorizo seized in Toronto on my way back to the U.S. from Spain. It was in a completely sealed packaging. And don't even get me started on the U.S. CBP goons working the U.S./Mexico crossings.

If tobacco is bad and alcohol is good, and you combine the two the average is "okay." So I say "okay" I'll have a stiff one and a bowl.

Be aware that alcohol destroys the protective layer around the tissues in your mouth. It is highly recommended that you never drink alcohol while smoking.

The impression I get is that we would be best off drinking a milkshake while pipesmoking.

Cigars are paired with hard liquour all the time and cigar smokers don't seem to have a problem.
