Tobacco Snobs

Gentlemen and Gentlewomen: Having been on forums years ago when they first became popular, and now getting back to some such as this forum, and having been a pipe smoker for a long time, I have an observation:
Accounting for some good natured ribbing which I can see and very much appreciate, I can also see a trend where folks who smoke english and other "older" non aro blends tend to belittle those who smoke aro blends. Or who smoke "drug store" blends. To each his own.
We are all the same. Where I might paint my room walls green, someone else might choose blue. Are either of us wrong? Of course not that is why we have green and blue. We make basic choices to please ourselves not to fit into some category or group. Again, I see mostly just some decent butt busting, but with all that is going down we need to stand together.
I have been in my local B&M when someone will ask what is being smoked, and when answered smirk or an eye roll takes place. This is the same as cigars when being smoked. What is good or liked by one might not be the same for another.
I see on this and other forums folks that assume they are holier than thou because they smoke a certain type or blend that in their minds elevates them to some self imposed lofty tobacco position. The fact of the matter is green and blue, chocolate or vanilla, american league or national league just like tobaccos are CHOICES.
So please keep up the good ribbing, but those of you who are in a self described special place because of your choices, knock it off. I think at least some of you know who you are.
Meanwhile, lets respect one another and our individual preferences. Having sid that, "Play Ball".

Pwkarch, if some is actually putting someone down for what they smoke, other than good natured ribbing, joshing, or backslapping, let the moderators know. That is actually a violation of forum etiquette here.

I think that this forum is about the absolute best for folks respecting the choices of all members. I will joke, as well as others, but no one is going to truly and seriously put someone down for choosing aromatics or lakelands. The motto enjoy what you smoke, and smoke what you enjoy has been tossed around here for years. However, if a little joking is beyond your toleration, you might find participating in any forum in any fashion to be too much to tolerate.

The irony of it all is that in your effort to call out snobbery, you yourself come off as a snob! Let your hair down, relax, roll with the punches and just enjoy the forum. It will not change for you.

I've been on this forum several years and have seen no indication of the kind of posts of which you speak. On the contrary, it's quite the opposite, members on here are quite accepting of everyone.
And why is this same OP on here twice?

I have visited other forums which were like that, but I haven't noticed much of that behaviour here at all. Sometimes it's not always easy to see if someone's joking or not, particularly if you're new here and haven't gotten to know the characters yet. Overall, I think this forum is less dominated by group think, elitism, or any other kind of barrier to anyone who thinks outside the flock. That's why I'm still here. Sometimes I don't always "get" the humour, but that's because it's a diverse forum with different cultures, and not everyone thinks and acts the same way. I fully agree with your statement at other places, but I think here, you may just be reading a little too much into friendly wind-ups and banter.

I am trying old codger style tobaccos in reaction to the threads on this forum. I am presently working on Haunted Bookshop, Old Joe Krantz will be next, followed by Billy Budd. And I have, God help me, a tin of Jim Inks fave, Edward G Robinson, to work in somewhere in the next few weeks. I age avoided this style of tobacco for 30 years in favor of English, Virginia's, VaPers, etc, (with the exception of a few no longer available blends like Edgeworth slices and Walnut from time to time.)

Lots of joking and leg pulling but there is some truth to this, just my opinion and yours may differ. The same as a thread on Peterson's, some will clamber over one another to badmouth. Same goes for Aro's threads. :mrgreen:

You will find just as many people will post that they hate a Penzance or even FVF when a thread is posted for these. While I don't understand why someone would go out of their way to say that they don't like something that others enjoy, it is not exclusive to aromatics. Heck, I've even had to post a "nose wrinkle" to some lakelands, but lakeland guys tend to be more jovial about it. Maybe you just have to be thick skinned to begin with to smoke some of those. ::
