I just add most of my cellared tobacco to tobaccocellar.com
http://www.tobaccocellar.com/dnietosi
I checked up some of the big guys cellars... there is some crazy people out there!
I was thinking, I m starting to cellar stuff without any particular purpose but, how do you know if it was worth the wait. I mean, do you guys get a brand new tin to compare to your 5 years old FVF or something?

For me I have tried a tin of FVF that was aged 1 year versus one bought fresh and yes there is a difference I must say. I'm sure all the others will mostly agree. For more info if you don't already know check out:

I tried using that system but gave up quickly, it is way too much work and it is not very user friendly. I just keep track on a piece of paper. I write the dates on all my tins when I get them and do the same on my bulk storage jars.

Actually I didnt find it too much work at all. There are a lot of hidden short cuts, but once you figure them out, it's easy.

LOL I hear you. I have been hitting the TAD this weekend as well. I have another 25 pounds on the way. Leaving on vacation in a couple of days and when I get back in a week, most of it should be in (take about 10 days for stuff to get to me up here)
I am already noticing that a ton of different flake blends are sold out. Am hoping there are some big container ships steaming to the US as we speak.

While my stash is nowhere as huge as cigrmasters, I too write the date on the tin or jar and put them in the back of the cupboard as they come in so I'm smoking the oldest first. I have to admit though, that as I get more and more different kinds of tobacco in various ages of storage, a spreadsheet does sound like a good idea.

I spent a couple hours this morning putting in my data on Tobacco Cellar. Once I hit age 50 I found the mental checklist didn't work very well anymore.

I’m using excel right now, but have been working on my own access entry database to allow more detail on the purchases. My access skills are fairly rusty so it will take some time, plus it must look cool, but excel works fine for now. I do date the tins.

If I'm buying a new-to-me blend, I always order 6 or 11 tins to start with. (And I've usually done my homework beforehand, so I at least know if I'll be inclined to like a particular blend.) I smoke the 6th or 11th tin as soon as I can, and the rest go in the cellar. But I'm not "aging" to any pre-determined amount of time or anything like that. I just want to be sure I have supply on hand. I do try to dip into the cellar now and then to see how something's doing; if it's showing signs of fading, I want to smoke it sooner rather than later (or trade/sell it). I do have a few single tins of certain blends, but those are things I've either randomly acquired because they sounded good at the time or else I got them in a box of assorted tins in trade.
Chances are, if you don't like a blend when it's fresh or 1-3 years old, aging isn't going to change your mind. (Although, in time, our tastes and preferences might change.)
I just keep a list in Excel, which works fine for me. It tells me the blend name, the manufacturer, tin date (or when the tins were acquired), and where they're located in my cellar, since all of my tins are in plastic bins.

Alas, that's not saying much these days! I'm guessing many of us here have stock that very few B&Ms could match.

Nic, that's because I put it on all in one day! Just picked up another tin of Astleys No.44 at the B&M tonight. Looked old, so what the heck. He had about 8 bags of Penzance but I passed.

Nice spread, hfearly  Really like the colour coding.

I too use tobaccocellar, com, it's a great no-frills route to keep the data stored and fun to check out other cellars. It needs some tweaking for sure, particularly in the usage tracking--there is no way my cellar will last me 77 years. For some reason it thinks I smoke less than a bowl a week (HA!).

I strained my eyes looking at your spreadsheet for several minutes, trying, for the life of me, to figure out what order your list was in. I finally realized it was alphabetical by type of blend! 8O
Mine is just alphabetical by blend, which seems way easier -- at least for me. Especially since I don't categorize blends the same way you do.
