Dunhill's My Mixture 963 from many years back.
I think the tobacco that I envision as the perfect tobacco for me would be if the Virginia's and perique in Rouxgaroux were somehow components in some sort of Navy Flake. Maybe a little Burley in there with some molasses and rum. It could also be horrible.
For over 20 years I didn't purchase Frog Morton. Instead I explored everything that appeared top shelf and harder to get. When I got word that Frog was gonna be extinct, I purchased a few tins. Like $8 a tin at the time. And then I tried it.
Well, I was proved me wrong for being a snob. I love a dozen or so blends, including 1792 at a different end of the spectrum, but Frog is a special perfect tobacco to me. Gets my vote, and I've spent some time acquiring a reasonable stash.
It's a bit moody. 1792 and a couple of others are forgiving, they always deliver. Frog only works for me when I'm calm enough to enjoy a slow smoke. If I'm in a rush or stressed it's flat and not swell. Otherwise, it's excellent in all ways from flavor to burn to a fine ash. Weird.

I'm quite satisfied with what I smoke now day to day. Were I to wish for anything, give me 100 tins each of McClelland 40th, Rotary Navy Cut Flake and Klondike Gold.
I bet Dunhill did have a 963 and you could have left everyone wondering what it is!
Gosh, I guess you never added any rum or bourbon to a glass of Coke….?
Here’s one I did a small 8oz test batch of which lasted a few years. After the first year I did a 2lb batch that ended up lasting 16 years in various jars.
October Skys was pure ambrosia.
2X - McC 5100 Red Cake
2X - McC 22
0.75x - St James Perique
I think im in the "let the blender blend" camp. I do have notion how I would blend a blend, but I would not be able to discern that a blend needs a x amount of y tobacco or tone down tobacco y and replace the same amount with tobacco z. I compare it with picking wine and beer, I let the waiter or shop assistant (I do know where to go, these people have a lot of knowledge on their product) decide what fits the bill.
I went 50/50 with McC 40th Anniversary and Sutliff TS24 that was amazing.?
Always a pleasant surprise to find a new blend that 'clicks', especially in time to build a stash while available.
On another note, do you like 1792 fresh or with some age?
I go down to Ted's Pipe shop and buy the house blends. Man who owns the place has forgotten more than I'll ever learn about tobacco and pipes. I trust him and he is just great. I do not buy tins...I just go down to the tobacco shop and grab a couple oz. Of whatever he makes...I'd rather spend my time smoking it than jacking with it.

Had me fooled! I figured it was a long discontinued blend from well before my time!

963 was a flop anyway. Tasted like Best of the Rest - Dottle Edition.
And 964 was an improvement, but only one customer bought it regularly.
