Just interested.

What is the price of tobacco tin in typical American brick and mortar store? I mean standard 50g tin which costs $8-10 on internet.

I bought some Sherlock Holmes for $19.99 (just looked at the price on the tin). Some Bella Vanilla for $19.99 And some CAO Moontrance for about $17. I picked up the Moontrance on the internet for something like 5 or 6 per tin.

Brian covered this on one of the radio show episodes. Basically you have to pay more at a B&M because they have a tax for bringing it into their state on top of the OTP (other tobacco product) tax and don't forget state sales tax where applies. I live in Nevada so no state sales tax thanks to the casinos :) . Online retailers don't have to pay the tax for bringing it into the state since it's passing through, which is why they can sell tins considerably cheaper.
Here in Las Vegas it seems most tins run around $15. That's why I got into Mac Baren blends because they were the same price but every tin was 100 grams instead of just 50.

Lord - Nevada does have a tobacco tax however - 30% of the wholesale price. http://tax.state.nv.us/about%20taxes%20and%20faqs.html#cigotpinfo
That's pretty low compared to many states but not as low as others.

Yeah I know we have a tobacco tax, I'd be surprised if anyone didn't. I was saying that ontop of that tobacco tax people typically have to pay a state and or city sales tax and in Nevada there is no state sales tax due to the casinos. I believe it works out that they donate so much money to the state and get a huge tax break because of it.

Does anyone know which state has the lowest tobacco tax (on pipe tobacco I mean)? I would guess South Carolina but not sure.

It's been so long since I've bought a tin locally. . . But I'd have to say probably $12-14 here in Michigan.
I've also recently purchased tins in Illinois and Colorado. Illinois tended to be more in the $14-17 range. Colorado was similar. . . although I did see -- didn't buy! -- Rattray's 100g tins at $27!

I picked up a tin of Orlik Golden Sliced 50gram for $12.99 at my B&M. Not great considering it's half that online...
Puts us consumers in a really bad spot. I want to keep my B&M in business, but it is EXPENSIVE. When I go, I always pick up a tin, but I make my big orders at 4noggins.com

Interesting. Here in Tel-Aviv a tin of Dunhill costs $15. But tin of SG like FVF costs per 2 less.
