"@bluesmk… my wife and I went to the Rose Parade for the first time this year, although we've been residents for almost 7 years now. It was a fun experience. I hope your son makes it back home safely, and I hope he enjoyed his time in our neck of the woods. "
Thanks houndstooth, been a hairy day here, his flight was going well 'till almost 2/3 the way they were diverted to Detroit because of the grid lock at JFK, only 2 of 4 runways were in use. Well according to the JFK flight tracker they landed about 30 mins ago. He still has an hour + bus ride but I'm sure he'll have some stories to tell!

Currently 2 deg here in eastern Indiana, they are telling us to expect ten inches of snow tomorrow through Sunday with high temps Sunday through Tuesday around negative five and lows around negative thirty, with wind chills into the negative forty to fifty range, I still prefer this to high heat with high humidity though.

I woke to -9 this morning. It's now a balmy 0.
Why am I living in the Northeast?

"The Kix", a local 80/90's hair band, played in Hollywood on NY Eve. They were stuck for over 24 hours in Dallas, but supposed to be flying home today. Two members were supposed to play locally tonight, which was cancelled.

Be safe, all. It might get below freezing in TX tomorrow, but we certainly won't have the weather a lot of you are having.

Yep... it's sure great to be retired as I used to work outside. I remember all too well having to work on 12/24/1983 when the temperature was -25F with a wind chill of -82. The coldest recorded temperature in Chicago's history. I ended up burning a very tine hole in the back of my throat from breathing in the frigid air which then resulted in an infection and I ended up being sick in bed for the next week.
They are forecasting about -36+ windchill this coming Monday. About the only thing that is going outside that day is the smoke from my chimney!
By the way; for those that are experiencing the frigid weather keep a close eye on your pets.

Rav - That's a really funny story! I'll have to remember that one.

thanks. You may be the only one who caught it. Needless to say, it's far better when told than read, but I've gotten many laughs out of that one over the years.

Back in the early 80's, our vehicles were one car and one motorcycle. I worked about seven miles from our apartment, so the bike was my daily transportation. I had a snow-mobile suit which sort of worked. One morning, I rode in and the bank temp display said minus 6 degrees. When I took off the suit, one of my employees said my neck was gray. My scarf had slipped exposing my neck. It hurt like heck for a while, but no damage. I bought a 2nd car by the following winter. I had to cross a guarded rail line that actually ran pretty regularly. Getting caught at a train with my sealed up helmet was deadly. I made some daring dashes across and in front of a few trains to avoid getting my shield all fogged up, when you are 19, you are fearless and stupid...

"hi there. Where you guys from?" – "Saskatoon, Saskatchewan." Comes the reply. He nods and walks back to his table. One of his friends asks "where they from?" "I don't know. They don't speak English."
I was born and raised in Saskatoon, but they taught me English in school, eh?
-29 Celsius (-20 Fahrenheit) this morning in Regina. But the high for tomorrow is -53 F with the windchill.

This morning I got up to 26 degrees and sunshine. The high for the day is going to be 44 degrees.
Our ski resorts are really suffering, there just isn't any snow.
Be careful out there, guys (and gals)!

Thanks for thinking of us all lol. The walk to work monday morning was flippin cold to say the least. I couldn't smoke my pipe on the way there because the bit was too cold to keep between my teeth. I only have a 2-4min walk to work and by the time I got there it felt like I got punched in the face. Throbbing and aching from the cold I went on the downwind side of the building and had my morning pipe. It wasn't bad once I got away from the wind.

The weather says were supposed to get freezing rain and about 6" of snow throughout today, tonight and into tomorrow morning.

Canadians DO like winter (well most of us do) but I'm pretty sure I speak for us all when I say -31C is a tad on the chilly side lol. Another three months of this crap and all of us will be bitching about how hot it is outside lol!

Wondering if the many forum members in more temperate climates - I'm thinking of you, Florida crew - might considering opening their homes (and possibly cellars) to a few refugees from the frozen north. We wouldn't stay long.... five or six months max... then we'd head home... promise

They're saying a high of -5F here in Missouri tomorrow. Luckily I think I get to work from home tomorrow. Unfortunately, I can't smoke in the house (due to family members with asthma). But I guess a couple of days break won't kill me. I think I'll be like others and do some deep pipe cleaning tonight.
I'm saying a prayer for those who have it worse than we do. Stay warm and safe. :puffy:
