@hawky454: I bought it from a website which sells pipes, cigars and pipe tobacco. It's a Savinelli Piazza Di Spagna 602 Rusticated. The inside of the bowl was black (I found that weird).
Here are some more pics
The top of the bowl when it was newer:

A pic of it from just now (which shows the glued shank):

I’ve never had a Savinelli come with bowl coating but that doesn’t mean they don’t do it, a lot of companies use a carbon coating around the walls, I prefer fresh wood myself. Last time I bought a new Savinelli was in 2010 so maybe that’s something they’ve started doing, I’m sure other members know better than I. Personally I would take it up with the place you purchased it from but they’ll probably just tell you it’s a user error and it very well may be. It’s probably best to stay away from the knife while reaming, you could have possibly carved out the coated walls while reaming along with some of the wood, as you said, you used more force than just your average elbow grease. Don’t worry so much about how you’re smoking it but rather use more care when cleaning and reaming your pipe. That’s a good looking pipe and if you stay away from reaming it and use suggested methods stated above I’m betting you could still get a lifetime worth of smoking pleasure in that very pipe.

Vegas Baby!!!
To avoid burnout I usually take three puffs of nitrous oxide for every puff of pipe smoke. After a couple of rounds I generally forget or don't care about burnouts.
I'm a trained professional, don't try this at home.
