OK, Machado, so this wasn’t a new pipe? The damage, if any, was done by the previous owner. Perhaps the walls were thin to begin with, we don’t know. Either way, you reamed the cake back to wood, but I doubt that you burned any briar. Keep your cadence as-is, and to paraphrase Charlie Papazian “Relax, don’t worry, have another bowl”.

Or to paraphrase Frankie GTH, "Relax, don't do it" (when you want to over-ream).

If you've seen the original video, that takes on a whole new meaning. 8O

Brand new out of the Savinelli box.
Never bought an estate until today (because here they're mostly crap and the foreign estates sometimes get withheld in the customhouse).
But, back to the topic...

Machado, you may be over-thinking pipe smoking as someone suggested. It appears you over-reamed the Sav. Here's another approach some of us use. We never ream. We scoop out the loose ash and then wipe out the bowl with a paper napkin or towel. This maintains the chamber size, keeps a carbon layer, but pretty much eliminates reaming and the wear it creates. Also, you probably do need to relax a bit. You'll make mistakes. Learn from them and carry on. Right now, it sounds like you get more anxiety than pleasure. Take it easy and see what happens.

Brother, you need an intervention! RELAX, don't ream or salt treat a new pipe. A pipe cleaner and a paper towel in the bowl. It'll be just fine... :puffy:

I made huge mistakes in the past, dear mr. mso489.
That's why I'm trying to avoid them in the future, know where I'm trying to get?
I don't want my new pipe to get deformed like this Savinelli.
Is it possible that this is just over-reaming, considering that I haven't even seen the brown wood come out?

That's true, but this pipe was the subject of bad luck (a maid who supposedly used a cleaning product inside of it, and a cracked shank which had to be superglued, and then... the superglue that leaked into the bowl).
Hence the salt and alcohol treatment, the acetone treatment, and the reaming.

I was coming back to reply but Woodsroad basically summed up everything I would have said. If that Sav was brand new, than there was something wrong with it in the first place. I would plead your case with Savinelli but I would leave out that you’re a novice just because they don’t need to know that. Like I said before, could be impurities, sand pits within the walls of the chamber, it happens and I’ve know folks that have been refunded their money for very similar cases. Ahhhh, I guess I did have more to say, it just started rolling out, I meant to make this just a short reply.

One more thing, where did you buy it? Do you live in the States? From just that one picture that doesn’t look like a 3 month old pipe, looks like it was from the 70’s. Are you teaming itvwith a dremel tool? Serious, somethings not right here? I hope that wasn’t an eBay purchase.

Maybe pipe smoking just isn’t your thing.

Lol. That crossed my mind too... maybe this is the guy that can actually prove me wrong and burn out a pipe? I thought about betting him a brand new pipe that he couldn’t do it, but now I’m glad I didn’t make that offer!
Machado were just joking here but seriously, somethings not adding up.

I live in Brazil... I mean, the box looked legit for my non suspicious eyes.
I reamed it with a scraper and a knife. Took me some elbow grease, actually not "some", a lot, to remove most of the glue by reaming that.
I used the acetone to remove the glue that wouldn't leave with the reaming. It finally went away.

Machado, I'd try MSO's method with your new Stanwell. No reaming, unless it's very gentle and with the spoon of the Czech tool. NO knives! Just paper towel. You can add a bit of saliva to the paper towel to get rid of pesky residues that won't be removed with the dry paper towel.
Forget about the fabled cake. Even with the paper towel treatment you're still bound to get some carbonisation anyway.
See how that works.

@woodsroad I even recorded that video! But my face looks funny, don't have the courage to post it here. All I can say is I don't smoke like a chimney.
@olkofri: will do that, thanks a lot! I'm being very careful with it, and even then there's some minor rim darkening that doesn't go away with saliva. Will buy some wipes as people said it works for that purpose.

What color was the inside of the bowl when it arrived? It’s very easy for new pipe smokers to get “got”. Will you also send some more photos of the pipe? I just want to see it in its entirety. Show aclose up of the nomenclature, all that Jazz. You obviously didn’t buy it straight from Savinelli, so you bought if from a private seller?
