Does anyone have good ideas on a nice looking display for 12-15 pipes? I’ve finally got 10 pipes that I really enjoy and would love a way to display them along with the 1-2 I plan to acquire in the new year. I’ve tried 2 commercially produced racks and neither would accommodate anything above a certain size and shape. I’m looking for something that compliments the pipes of varied shapes and sizes and will look like it belongs on the shelf with my bourbon collection. Probably asking for a lot but if any group of guys and ladies for that matter would have suggestions I figure it would be y’all.

I don't know where he got it, but a gentleman I spoke with at a cigar lounge a week or two ago mentioned how he got his son-in-law some sort of leather sheet with some loops so he could hang it from the wall, with holes in it to hold pipes. It's not exactly a "rack", but it'd keep your pipes nicely displayed and organized.

Even though you are planning on 12-15 pipes, I would go for a 24 or even a 36 slot rack.

I absolutely believe you’re right however, I feel 15 would be top for a while and rack for 30+ would look empty and by time I hit 30 I’d be looking for a different style display that would hold 40. I do like where your mind is though.
Racks are asking for broken pipes. Just too easily knocked over. They'd be safer in an eyeglasses case.

OMG You might just have spun me around in a direction I wouldn’t have ever expected yet; oddly am now more than inclined to pursue. Hmmmmm

I returned to pipes in 2018 with the 20 or so pipes from the 1970s-‘80’s

I culled a few and set myself a limit of 24 pipes
Now, a few years later, I’m around 200 😱
Yes, PAD is real. VERY real 😁

I'm not sure if there are any pipe shops near you, but the one up here in Anchorage has a nice collection of old display racks that hold from 4 up to 30 or 40+. If you are lucky enough to find such a place, you'd be able to pick one that matches your bourbon collection. One suggestion: Buy a small bottle of Obsidian oil or mineral oil to keep your vulcanite pipe stems looking nice. I keep my pipes in racks and find Obsidian oil, or just mineral oil really staves off oxidation.

If you run a search there are threads about displays and cabinets. A lot of good ideas.

I made my own using some basic shop tools. A small table saw, screws and some construction adehsive.

Id add that if you make one that hangs on the wall be sure it is a very stable wall in terms of vibtations and impact. You dont want your pipes falling. Im in France and homes are built like bomb shelters. My walls are brick and block. Anything that gets attached doesnt move.

Mine holds 24. I made it expandable. Now I have to add another layer! I just have to get motivated and to the garage for that to happen.

If your pipes have vulcanite stems be sure not to mount a display in bright sunlight.

I’ve been trying to think of alternative ways to rack, hang, or store pipes and have come up with a few alternatives. This link shows a fishing pole hanging product that uses a tension clamping system. I really like it. If you scroll down from this product while on Amazon and look at similar options listed below you’ll see other stuff like this. There’s also fishing pole holders that are built just like tobacco pipe racks but are 80% cheaper. Check out these links. All seem like they’d work great.

Im not 100% sure about the height of this product but it sure does look like it would work and man is it cheap compared to pipe racks.

this one too.

I second the Neal Yarm suggestion. I have a six-pipe rack, and couldn't be more pleased with the woods used and the quality of the craftsmanship. I'm not sure how big they go, but you could always get a couple of them if need be.
