While killing some time this weekend we stopped at 2 antique shops. The first stop I found a Medico V.F.Q 24. I paid 3 bucks for it. From my research I think it’s from the 50-60s. The second stop I found a GBD Celebrator New Era 9633. I paid $20 for this one. I think it’s from the 80s. I cleaned them up. I forgot to take picture of the GBD before. I think they cleaned up well and we’re a great buy. Now to see how they smoke tomorrow. They both have flaws but I like it. If you know more about these feel free to chime in 2744D566-0A75-4AB8-9925-0730C037A6CB.jpeg462A8A85-037F-4E8D-98F3-57D81B875AB3.jpeg0DC69CFF-1A3B-4961-95D5-46E6243DB422.jpeg5F51E082-F1CF-4AF4-BF00-290CF8DA97E0.jpeg36031D83-8592-4649-8FCF-ABBE38917F4A.jpeg95BC3BBB-7F50-49D5-AEFD-9947C4B61A98.jpegE86FA883-97BC-4861-B099-04D870674D91.jpeg72735E7B-F056-49A8-84B7-9F24B7BFA691.jpegD97C41E7-2342-495A-8150-C19DAE3D804E.jpeg

Nice grain on the GBD - It's a "Collector" right? I'd say pre-80s, likely 70s.
Yes. I messed up on my post and I can’t edit it. It is indeed a Collector. I think I read that they started stamping them made in London England in the 80s. This one is stamped with London England. I think the earlier ones were just stamped England.

I'm pretty sure London England appears on pre80s pipes. The brass or silver rondelle on the stem has always pointed to pre-merger pipes (1981?) from what I've seen.

Horry Jamieson had a hand in the Unique and Collector lines - quality pipes. You did good on that one.

It's when the "made in London" is in a circle that indicates 1980s. Straight line is earlier.

If you want to get some more of the stain out of that perspex stem, scrub the airway with a bristle pipe cleaner and whitening toothpaste.

Great finds! Antique shops are an underrated place to hunt for estate pipes. Often you get solid smokers for much cheaper than online since those sorts of businesses often don't know how much a pipe can be worth.

I'd say you did pretty well. Very nice pipes.

The leaf inlay on that Medico just screams 1950s 1960s to me. Not bad at all for a few bucks.

That stem on the GBD has always caught my eye. As Embers says above, toothpaste will do wonders in there, but some small bristle brushes and warm water with a little dish soap might work as well. Definitely worth the investment if you've caught the bug.

Very nice! Collectors were made primarily by Horry Jamison in the 1960-70s. Horry had worked for Barling until 1960 when he went to work for GBD, he was the carver behind all of their Collector, Unique, Colossus and other large and freehand or unique pipes. Collectors are handmade and outstanding pieces, love the Perspex stem!

Thanks guys. I did use bristled pipe cleaners and Everclear but that’s as clean as I could get it. I’ll try the toothpaste trick. Thanks for the suggestion!

I left my phone number with the guy at the store and he text me this last night. May try to pick these up also. His text read “There are 2 weber and 2 kaywoodie 1 jefferys 1 monterey 1 with the brass was made in Italy but the unable to read name 1 marxman 1 bbb 1 no name. The 2 aluminum ones are kirsten”

I’ll clean them up. May keep some and sell some.

The Monterey pipe could be a nice score. Look up “Mission Briar” for some background.
