I looked it up last night a bit. From what I can tell it was a WW2 alternative to briar. Really couldn’t find any pros or cons about it.The Monterey pipe could be a nice score. Look up “Mission Briar” for some background.

Oh wow! Do you think that was done by one exposure to alcohol or years of cleaning with alcohol? I’ll make sure to never use alcohol again on acrylic. Thank you guys for the heads up!!
Well the picture I posted was a brand new hand cut acrylic stem that I had just finished cutting and absent-mindedly ran an alcohol soaked pipe cleaner through. It was instant... I hadn't even smoked it yet, I was just trying to clean buffing compound out of the slot. It still smokes fine but it doesn't look great in perspex stems.Oh wow!
