The original series were made by Oldenkott, in a bent shape and a straight, in either smooth or blast finish. Around ten years ago (Oldenkott had long since ceased to make them) Gubbels bought the licence and made some changes to the design: most notable is the screwed-on radiator sleeve (no screws on the Oldenkott production). When Gubbels filed for bankruptcy last year, the licence was forfeited. I don't know of any new maker for these pipes.

If I wanted to spend at that level, I'd probably get something other than a Porche Design pipe, but it

is an interesting look. I'm glad there is a vast variety of designs offered. Even the ones I don't want

add to the mystique of what I do select. There is a low-priced pipe with a veined bowl like that, for

about $40. I don't think I want that one either.

Out of nostalgia, I love manual gear boxes, don't get me wrong, but a dual clutch transmission with paddle shifters (like ZF and others make) is much faster than a manual gear box. That is why all the high end sports cars are using them now (including F1 and other race cars).
I smoke for enjoyment rather than a quick nic kick and therefore choose a pipe vs a cigarette; similarly, I drive for enjoyment rather than to win a race, therefore I choose a proper manual gearbox vs a computer-assisted paddle shifter.
