Thank you for making me feel less concerned about my ridiculous jar collection. Based on yours, I’m just getting started!

Just tonight my wife commented that “we have a lot of tobacco”. She also said “you really can’t comment about my shoe collection any more”. She...has a point.

My secret Santa was very very good that me. Now even though he sent some tobacco that is no longer available, I'm fine with that. Its like expensive 30+ year old scotch. You don't drink it every day, you bring it out on special occasions. You savor it. Then every time you taste it you remember those occasions. I see it as an opportunity that I wouldn't have had.

I also received a special tamper. It was a dud 5.56 or .223 round with a spent cap to prevent tobacco from entering the round. I have 2 ARs, 1 6.5 Grendel and a .300 blackout pistol. I believe I've mentioned my many weapons before. I honestly don't recall.

I would've added this sooner but took a tumble up the stairs which is rare, I usually fall on my ass going down. I've had 12 surgeries on my back. One left me with nerve damage, a bum leg, and a lot of pain. Bone, muscle, and nerve pain. Lucky me I got a tri fecta.

Any way I slipped and smacked my shin right into the step then banged my knee on the step below. So I was laid up a few days. It still hurts but I have to move around or it'll just keep hurting and get stiffer and stiffer. I've been soaking it in Epsom salt, using heat and ice packs. I also have this cream called Voltaren. When my back is hurting more than usual then I use this. It works. It's prescription strength. But if you have chronic pain ask your Dr about it. My gift to you.

Thought about listing everything that came in the box but decided not to. I'm still receiving things from eBay. That's what I thought this was or I would've saved it. Honestly I'm not that big on waiting. My girlfriend and I usually hold back 1-2 gifts for Christmas, but the bulk is usually something we need, sometimes want. But we get gifts for each other on occasion for no reason.

She just retired a few months ago so we're still sorting through boxes and deciding which furniture to keep. My sons been asking for the couch. It has recliners on the ends. But you can't lie on it. Its like those fold out couches you can't sleep on because the bar runs right through the middle of your back.

My parents had one that weighed a ton. I think my dad pulled that bar off and bent it at my cousins muffler shop. Its the only pull out I ever slept on without sleeping across it with your feet hanging off the side.

But thanks to my secret Santa. I will enjoy every last bit until the day its all gone. But you never know, I may find something similar and have a new favorite. I don't cellar any tobacco yet. I'm still looking and experimenting. I noticed some of you like making your own blends. I may try that one day. For now I'm just enjoying the ride. If I happen to come across one that I don't like, I just give it to my son, if he doesn't like it he has a friend he passes it along to. Just found that out.

Thanks again and Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Hannukka, Happy Kwanzaa, Buddah Bless you, As-salamu alaykum, and Bah Humbug for you curmudgeons that believe Christmas is just greedy commercialism . May you all be safe and happy through these trying times.

Thanks

I'm considering one of those humidor tables. Maybe just make a giant humidor out of a cabinet. Line it with cedar, put latches on it with a gasket around the door. Waiting for spring and garage sales so I can find some canning jars or storage containers with the flip top lids and rubber gasket. I like the flip top ones better. I found this tobacco humidor on eBay with a ship. Anyone recognize it?

Thanks

We should have bumped this thread more to keep it visible!

I dislike those ones quite a bit. I don't trust the seal on them.

They're replaceable. You can buy them lots of places or you can replace them with cork gasket material or just make a gasket from a regular sheet of gasket material. I also have some of that liquid rubber they advertise on tv.

They're easy to test for leaks. Close the lid, place it under water. If you see bubbles you need a new gasket. I only had to replace 1 ever. It tore so it wouldn't seal.

I know you can get a new rubber seal, I just like the full screw top lid better. To each their own, spice of life, lid for every pot etc...

I have a couple screw tops too. I used to get them at yard sales to store dry food in. Now I want them for my tobacco. I haven't bought any tobacco in bulk yet. If it isn't in a tin I keep it in a zip lock in one of the storage containers. If I open the tin I put it in a zip lock and stuff it into a container. Just remember to write what it is on the bag or you'll have to smoke mystery tobacco for a while. Then I also have a cigar humidor I keep some in. A couple cigar boxes, Tupperware type containers, lock lock containers. I keep my coffee in the fridge in the lock lock ones too. they're like Tupperware but they have these tabs you fold over and they make a popping sound when they lock.

If you buy those canning jars on eBay they treat them like they're gold or something. When I get them at yard sales I usually get 5-10 for a couple bucks. Sometimes I have to get lids for them. But eBay and Amazon has them. I needed something in a pinch so I just got a big gallon container at Wal-Mart. Its white with a black lid. Came with 2 other smaller containers. They're like Tupperware. The lid is pressure fit. There's a grove on the inside at the top of the container. No air bubbles when I put it under water.

I keep buying more tobacco to try so now I have like 10+ open tins or bags where I bought an oz or 2. I've found a couple I like but not sure yet if I want to cellar them yet. Once I start doing that I guess I'll have to start paying attention to announcements about tobacco companies closings and discontinued tobaccos..

Also I have to pay attention to tobaccos that are limited releases. I keep kicking myself because I didn't buy more c&d red flake and I missed out on the red flake with perique.

Back to Santa and Christmas...

I painted this picture around 1985. I bought an 8"x10" picture frame and traced the Santa on the glass with a Sharpie pen. I then painted between all of the lines and ended up with this. The background behind Santa's hat is Christmas wrap.

My wife insists on hanging it up every year. I'm thinking about trying to paint another, but this time Santa will have a pipe.

I received my Secret Santa. I am deeply impressed and thrilled with the contents. I shall post some pictures very shortly. What I am trying to workout is if the gift giver is from the U.K or New Zealand as this has stumped my brain. I am old fashioned and usually write a thank you note unless its Weezell since we exchange stuff all the time. Until I work it out thank you very much to whoever sent me the wonderful gift.

My wife has Never Said One Single Word about my PAD/TAD. Why?

Because not once in nearly 40 years have I peeped about her yarn & fabric. ??? Most of us here have a "man cave"? Our house has/IS a yarn cave. ;)
