I work blue collar jobs...and no longer have the "going to court clothes" in my wardrobe. If I have to attend a wedding of 1 of my friends, it's probably their 3rd time around, so I can still get by with blue jeans, and a good t-shirt. I do go all out, and wear the stuff without stains or holes for such an occasion though.

I must admit I do have a thing about dressing well, not that I have to, since I'm retired. When I go out I always wear a suit and tie, usually one that I've designed myself, ( such as the one I'm wearing in in my Avatar ), and had my Sloane Street tailor make up for me, or a Savile Row suit. My shoes gleam and I'm a right Flash Harry, or I may go for the country gentleman look with a Harris Tweed suit. I'm just crazy about clothes. I like to see women dress damn expensive, I don't care what other men wear are as long as it's not a black suit, the true gentleman should never wear black, it's too artificial, women can wear black ok. A man should attire himself in the colours of nature.

Man, that looks dapper. (I had to look up that word to see if it was obsolete.) If you can pull it off--and you obviously can--I say go for it. Kudos and all that. In the same vein, I love fedoras. Trouble is, one can only wear them with irony, which annoys me. Last time I wore one it was with a Burberry trenchcoat. I walked into a hamburger joint and the fascinated young lass behind the counter thought someone was filming a movie. I ordered a double Wendy's with fries and told her I was a secret agent. PITA.
Is that Bill Murray?

@timelord Your hat in the first photo looks like the one I wear when smoking a clay pipe!
Interesting. That hat is one I bought in Brazil but although I guess most people would think of it as some sort of 'western hat' the basic design of a leather wide brimmed hat worn by farmers and the like is probably centuries old.

The hats in the other two photos are both Aussie Akubra's (yes, they make top hats too!). I have several Akubras (I probably have more hats than my wife has pairs of shoes - certainly my hats outnumber her handbags!); most are typical 'Aussie' styles but a couple are Western styles (Akubra used to have a licence to make Stetson's) and two are Fedora's. Also a few panamas and several Basque beret's as well as a few Irish tweed caps (er, I like hats!).
