This place gets deep after a few bowls of Royal Yacht.
That being said, what is realism? Perhaps admitting that there is more than meets the eye, or at least possibly so, and then remaining open to seeing patterns in what we know of the world. At that point, a door is open, and the rest depends on the adventurer more than the terrain on which the adventure occurs.

I'm half Texas German catholic and half North Carolina southern baptist. I have to admit the catholic side has a lot more fun.

Everything that we have been able to observe in the known universe is temporal, transitory, impermanent. So the question is, if the eternal does not exist, where did the temporal come from?
Is it really possible for all that exists to be of a temporary nature without any permanent source?

My garbage man, Al, says yes. It was an emphatic yes. He should have a grasp of the subject as he hauls away most all the temporary stuff in my neighborhood.
So, he considers you a permanent source of garbage?

I'm at that point in life where I have to hope for a benevolent, very benevolent and forgiving (I'll need my fair share of forgiveness), deity to be in charge.
YES! ...

My father was Catholic. My mother was Pentecostal. I believe there may be a supreme deity but also view most churches as being cults were the leaders want to control your life and take money away from you. Question: How many poor people could an Evangelist help for the price of a private jet?
My ancestors have been traced on my paternal side to an indentured servant from Scotland in the Virginia Colony in the late 1670s. My great grandmother was full blooded Choctaw Indian on my father's side. On my mothers side my great grandmother was full blooded Cherokee.

Pappy, I guess it's just part of the human condition that as long as people are seeking answers, there will always be someone there to provide answers.

My ancestor was the Ships Cooper on the Mayflower, and one of the hired hands who stayed on at the new Colony. John Alden. One of his descendants was the poet Longfellow, who wrote a story about John and made him famous. That makes finding distant relatives fairly easy. I run into lots of random people who don't have the Alden last name, but their Father or Uncle or someone in the family has Alden as a middle or first name in honor of being related to the original John Alden.

After running into so many random people all across the country who are related to one guy on a boat, I do believe the 10% number. I'm sure for every one person that I figure out is a distant cousin, I probably shake hands with another 50 who are, and never know it.

Who remembers that documentary about pitkin island? The late sir Alan whicker interviewing the descendants of fletcher Christian & the other mutineers from the bounty. Both fascinating & moving.

The first in my paternal line got here pre-Revolutionary War, and got a land-grant from William Penn himself.

Simon, assuming you meant the Pitcairn Islands I saw that and yes, it was fascinating but also had its darker moments.
I could watch anything by the legendary Alan Whicker...his delivery was so perfect.
Regards,
Jay.
