I'm going to side with Pruss. For some reason Tarentino's movies make me wonder how many bodies are buried in his crawlspace.

Can't wait to see this one. Django Unchained was hilarious. It needed the subtitle "Get Over It Already, Everyone!"
The only film that left me wondering WTF was Death Proof, the female Reservoir Dogs dialogue was funny in theory. Kurt Russell is the only redeeming quality.

There has been a lot of talk about this "space" movie that is in theaters right now. I just do not understand how any movie lover can be excited about anything other than the Hateful Eight!
However, I am a little disappointed that the 70 Pan-vision, Extended Version was only available for a one time viewing at select theaters on Christmas Day :crying:

I watched it yesterday - No spoilers in my summary:
My local theater was not playing the Extended version, so I downloaded a Oscar screener which was excellent visually.
Grade: B.

Could have been a B+ if it were 30 minutes shorter. I could not have endured this for 3 hours in a theater.
What I liked:

- winter scenes and overall visual feel

- Violence was diminished from previous Tarantino flicks. Just enough.

- Sequencing (can't say more)

- Characters were pretty well played by all of the stars.
What I did not like:

- felt too much like a play (Tarantino is considering taking this one to the stage, it was written with that in mind)

- Moved pretty slow for the first half

- Sountrack weaker than most Tarantino flicks

- WAY TOO LONG
The Revenant is up next,I'll be curious to compare the two.

For what it's worth, I loved the first half of Hateful Eight.
Anyone know what kind of pipe Samuel L Jackson is smoking in Hateful Eight? The one with the pipe tool attachment?
Thanks

I'm an unabashed QT fan, but his recent anti-LEO stance, butchered walk back and subsequent posturing will keep me home from his latest venture. (Why people in the entertainment business - especially talking head actors - feel compelled to express their political beliefs is absolutely beyond me.)
Jane Fonda is a beautiful woman and one of this country's most talented actresses. I'm fortunate that I saw her in "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" and "The Morning After" before I truly realized what she did during our involvement in French Indochina. At this point, she's been dead to me for almost three decades.
Same-same with the immensely gifted Ed Asner. His political views run in the opposite direction of mine and my only option is to vote with my feet. Does it matter to him? Not one whit. But I have to draw a line in the sand somewhere.
And now, my very favorite, dope smoking, 60's loving, fast talking, video hustling, let's stand film making on it's goddamned ear director wants to vilify cops as a bunch of kill crazy thugs?
Go fuck yourself, Quentin.
Pardon my language, folks.

+1 Fnord, Quinton Go Fuck Yourself, same for Samuel Jackson, these Douche bags stay at home while other people fight so that these a holes can make a fortune and have the sheep buy tickets to further enrich themselves. Same For Hanoi Jane.

I find that most folks who don't like his stance - haven't actually heard his actual comments. But such is an internet world. Here is a snippet of his live comments, of course edited by Fox.

The response from the Police organization statement that he is a "cop hater" seems like a stretch to me, particularly if you hear his full comments.
In interviews, he continually refers to the Walter Scott incident, which was a murder because it was caught on video. Without the video, no murder. While I think he should stick to making movies, I don't have a problem with his statements.

He has made comments concerning excessive use of force by officers in the field. He is not trying to vilify all police officers. If you do not think excessive force by police is an actual issue, then it is not Quinton who should fuck off.

I hadn't planned to see the movie in the theatres, but since the various police unions in the country have done such a brilliant job promoting it, I feel compelled to pay to see it.
Seriously though, I read Mr. Tarantino's comments in full as well. The comments were polemical, as you would expect from Mr. Tarantino (subtlety in any form is not his strength), but to suggest that he was calling all police officers murderers as some have alleged is just ludicrous.

Uh Oh! We got a community organizer here. There's a thread about How Academic Intellectuals Suck running on the forum, this conversation might be better discussed there. Since higher learning sometimes educates spongy minds to Alinsky Tactics,

Tarantino did align himself with a group that no doubt has "cop haters" (that's an assumption I'm making) so on the other hand,he shouldn't have been surprised at the reaction from NYC police organizations.

Being a cop supporter and anti-police brutality are not mutually exclusive.
I too was going to boycott the Hateful Eight over Quentin's comments - until I actually read his statement instead of depending on what other's say he said.
Regarding the movie itself, I was happy to see that he turned the violence back a notch for this production. However, the sexual violence and more cartoon caricature of Southerners turned me off.
But I think this may go down as one of the top 20 or so Westerns of all time.
BTW, Kurt Russel stars in another recently released genre-bending Western, Bone Tomahawk. Skip this one if you don't like over the top, graphic violence. It is reminiscent of a John Ford movie, at least until the last 30 minutes or so.
Regarding the pipes smoked in Hateful Eight, I thought the stems were too elaborately curved for the times. They appear to have been crafted from some plastic material, which wasn't invented until 1907.

Not a QT fan myself (though I did enjoy Inglourious Basterds) - but I appreciate many of the same things that influenced him heavily, so y'all might want to check and see if your local cable company is carrying the El Rey network (Comcast does). Robert Rodriquez (who is a huge QT fan) launched it in 2013, and they specialize in grindhouse, martial arts, action movies, and original content by Rodriguez - including "The Director's Chair", which did a 2-part interview with Tarantino...

Kill Bill, groundbreaking as it was, is not my favorite film, and neither is Res Dogs.
I am embarrassed to admit how much I love Inglorious Basterds--(I can watch it over an over again) mostly because my grandparents were killed by the Nazis in Poland.
When I watch this film, I only wish and tear up that there was such a group and that actually would have happened in real life.
There is a motto amongst some--"Never Again"
Sorry for slightly off topic
