Thank you all truly. This is one of the hardest moments of my life. I've buried my first true love, my first son, lost a leg, been to hell and back, now this. But I stand strong, never giving up.

Irish, it has taken me this long to respond, as I just couldn't bear the thoughts it brings up. I too, am the last one. But I will tell you what a Navy Chaplain told me at the last funeral I attended. "Now you are left to guard the memories, live the joys and soothe the pain of old wounds. Your watch is to make sure, that these things are not forgot. Raise your glass, and smile at your brothers that wait at the next port."
Find piece my friend, in you memories.

@pipeinhand sir that brought a tear to my eye. I can image all of them sitting around a table Guinness in hand with mine sitting there, while they talk about the trouble we raised, saying his is here when he arrives.

With my face clean shaven, boots shined bright, ribbons in order, and my tie tied tight. Today I will send a brother home, to a place without war. With one final salute as taps are played, may he find peace in death, that we couldn't find in war. Worry not brother, for what you've left behind, for what was yours to guard has now become mine. This duty I take with a heavy heart, never fear my brother I will not let you down.

Irish,
God bless you and your friend as you see him on his way. The others from your unit and your life are waiting for him. He is at peace.
